• Brock Surefire was doing all he can to keep from shaking from the adrenaline that was pumping through him already. In his flight suit snugly strapped into his cockpit chair he did another system check to make sure that his targeting unit was functioning properly. His father before him was a legend in the SMS unit that he now pilots in. A private military group that specialized in missions the regular military had red tape that kept them from carrying out , he was now set on a course to become the units elite sniper in the future. That is if he survived his first battle.

The machine he was given was the ZF-31 sniper model. A fighter plane capable of changing modes into two other modes. One that was like a bird with arms and one that was human like. Clenching his right hand around the control stick he saw it. The clear signal that said the runway was open for him. Pushing the throttle to max he was pushed back into his seat from the sheer force that was generated from his booster attachment for space combat. The runway seemed to pass in a blur as he launched off to form up with his squad which already had 3 members out. His captain's ZF-31 was already rapidly pulling away.

"Slow down captain Talon , I'm already losing formation" Brock would have to say as he barely managed to keep up still even with his boosters pushed close to maximum output.

"I told you once already green horn. I'm not here to babysit you. Even if your dad's my friend." Captain Talon responded back with a almost neutral tone as he pushed his full armor ZF-31 ahead. The 4 man squad was a standard for the SMS when it came to specialized units like his. In his case he had a veteran for his second in command and the other was experienced in atmosphere combat. On top of that he had Brock Surefire. A cocky kid that thought he knew what he was doing already. "Shake it up!" He would yell as soon as he saw stray tracer rounds.

Brock knew that now it was time to focus despite his obstacle , keeping up with his squad mates. "Ensign Surefire sniping targets!" converting to the bird like form he would take up his designated position at the back of the squad and begin scanning for targets. "Just like practice with the live fire drones" He would say to himself as he moved around to avoid becoming a sitting target. The squad was already engaged in combat with the enemy units making things confusing. It was already disorienting trying to follow everything he was trying to sort out , when he spotted the captains being chased down by 4 enemy units which quickly vanished in bright explosions.

"Quit gawking and start sniping then Ensign!" Captain Talon would yell as he looked for the next hostile target. "I almost got chewed up back there. Your our sniper , do what your supposed to be good at green horn!" Tracer rounds were a godsend because if it weren't for them he would of had a hard time avoiding the rounds from the 4 he just took down.

Brock knew that he needed help to pin point targets at this point. Otherwise he was going to end up eating it soon. His recently made best friend and former school mate was in his squad as their spotter. "Hiro ya got anything for me?" He would ask as he finally found a target and took a shot missing it by a hairs breath. "I missed?" He would say out loud as he quickly changed to fighter mode and chased his target down.

Hiro in the ZF-31 radar model would respond almost immediately. "You stupid green horn , you just engaged a R-70 , they only give those to elite pilots. Back off and let Captain Talon handle it!" It was too late as he saw Brock chase after it. "Ensign Rey to Captain Talon , Ensign Surefire has engaged a ace pilot."
Captain Talon would curse under his breath before responding. Already busy with another R-70 unit that was hard enough to keep his sights on. "Tell that green horn to disengage and leave it to Lt Gorge."
Hiro would try to signal Brock again but he got no responce. Busy gathering data with his a.I driven drones covering him would end up responding with a worried tone. "His not disengaging sir. I already told him twice.
    "Wheres Gorge?"
"His currently engaged with 2 units captain"

Brock found out that he may of picked the wrong target. The enemy unit was already on his tail trying to get a lock on him. Which he was having a hard time avoiding. His radio seemed to of given out also when he took a hit on the body. "System check." He would voice command as he barely got hit again by a hail of bullets aimed at his right booster. The display given to him didn't look good. His long range radio was knocked out already and he was beginning to lose power rapidly to other communication devices. It didn't take much for him to realize what was going to happen soon if he didn't do something about the unit on his tail.
The enemy unit that was on his tail finally showed up on his information console. "R-70 Viper , assigned to elites only. No wonder my shot missed. I was dead on." I need to think of something fast. Sensors are showing two more forming up with him in 2 minutes." The two units were on a interception course with Brock and he knew it. They were going to get him in the middle of a three point pincer. "Change course? No his probably planning on making me and releasing his missiles at me when I do." Doing a double check he would confirm the prediction. "High maneuver type micro missiles. Long range" He would read as he began to twist around wreckage of other fighter planes that were shot down.

"Wheres Brock? Captain Talon would ask Hiro as he finally nailed the enemy R-70 unit with a barrage of missiles.
"Currently at area 15 of the field. His really having a hard time. On top of that I read his current path will lead him to area 19 where it looks like his being herded towards a ambush with two other R-70 units."
"That kids in some deep deep trouble now. Gorge , get to area 19 on the double. We have to engage two R-70's there."

Brock was passing through what looked like a killing field with mostly sniper model wreckage. "What is this? Are they specialized in taking out snipers?" It was then that he got an idea. The wreckage had to at least have one heavily armored sniper in it. Veering off in a quick succession of boosts that jerked him around in his seat , but also making his chaser lose sight of him for a moment he would begin scanning for heavily armored sniper model down signals. "Bingo!" There was on in area 19. But he also knew that there were two more R-70 models waiting for him there. It was do or die and he knew he had to do it even if the risk was great. Pushing his throttle to overdrive which the ZF-31's were capable of for a limited time he would shoot for the heavily armored wreckage.
