• Black stands for effort.
    White stands for success.
In between them, the color that stands for stopping, one that kept trying but still fail in the end, it is Grey.
That, is the color of the Fallen Angel...
    --
    I can see.

People who are making great effort to achieve their goal have beautiful black wings on their back; those who had succeeded their goal have gorgeous white wings leading them everywhere.
    Except me.

I don't belong in either group, my wings are the color of ugly grey.

    I am the fallen angel...

    *

Looking out through the clear window, the blue sky reflecting in my eyes. I stared at it emotionless, wondering again why I am sitting in the classroom.

The phrase "transfer student" caught my attention. I turned my head lazily toward the student standing in front of the whole class, talking to the professor and introducing himself.

He was a transfer student too, walked into our classroom with that beautiful black wings of his. He motivated me, I fell for him; I swore I will do anything to catch up with him, to live for him, yes, my wings were once that beautiful black like everybody else in the classroom.
Until the day he left this world... forever...

Just when I started to feel bored staring at that new guy and getting ready to turn back to staring out the window again, another thing caught my attention. I stared at it with wide eyes, couldn't believe what I have just saw.

He has a pair of grey wings just like me.

    Another fallen angel, appeared...

    *

"Hi, are you Emily?" I looked aside, the new guy is standing right in front of me, smiling.

    "Yes, you are...?"

    "My name is Seth."

"Can I help you with anything?" I answered with a cold voice.

"The Professor said that you're the brightest student he ever had! He told me if I have any questions, I can go ahead and ask you about it! Will you help me out?" His smile just keeps growing bigger and bigger with each word he said.

"Guess I'll try my best." I lay my head back down onto the desk, end of the conversation.

Is the professor being serious? Can't he tell that since the number one student in the class is gone, there are no longer "the brightest student" in class anymore?

I sighed, unable to figure out why the professor is doing this to me. Whatever then, I guess, it's not going to be too hard just answering a couple or so question from a new student, right?

    *

"Hey Emily, do you know the answer to this question?"

"Emily, can you tell me what the professor meant?"

"Emily, can you show me where the convenient store is?"

    "Emily..."

    "Emily... ?"

"HOW MANY MORE QUESTIONS DO YOU STILL HAVE?" I finally burst out, and saw he look at me with shocking expression.

"Oh, sorry... I guess I just really want to get use to my new life here and get to make some new friends, so I kept on asking loads of questions, sorry Emily, I will try to control myself from now on." He gave me a smile full of apology.

"It... it's ok, you don't have to apologize you know? It is my fault for being inpatient and burst out like that, I'm sorry." I lost to his smile, I can't stay mad at him, he amused me.

Why? Why is there still a sound of hope in his voice? I thought there's no more hope for a fallen angel, so why is he still being so positive that he can achieve something? That he can get use to life here, make new friends, and start everything fresh? It's impossible!

I've tried this hard for a year and a half and I still couldn't succeed, how could he possibly think that he can do it?
    No, there is no way...

    *

    "Congratulations Emily!"

    "Yay! We finally graduated!"

My friends and family surrounded me after the graduation, congratulating me and all the others.

"We made it Em!" A girl friend of mine said.

"Yes! And you know what? We're so happy that you finally returned to your old self again! You've changed!"

    "I've... changed?"

"Yes, guess it is true that you will never know your own changes until others told you huh? We're all so glad you're back with us instead of just staring out the window all the time!"

"And here comes the hero who changed you! Over here Seth!" She waved at Seth, and then pushing all the other girls away, giving me an ambiguous smile.

"Hey Em! Congrats! We made it!" Seth walked to my side, still having that same smile he had the first time we met.

I didn't notice it until now, how much I love that smile of his.

"Thanks for everything Em! You're my very first friends here, you know? If it isn't because of you, I would never made it through! And what makes me more happy is seeing you changed! I'm glad I could help you out too!"

"What do you mean that I changed?" I'm still really confused at this moment.

"What? You didn't notice yourself?" He pointed at my back, "We are the same!"

I turned my head around, eyes wide with disbelief.
Since when did my ugly grey wings turned back into the black wings I used to have? And how come I didn't sense that Seth can also see other people's wings too?

"You... can see the wings too?" I asked.

"Yes." He smiled again, "You know how to change both of our black wings into white wings?"

    "No. How?"

"Just like this." He smiled again, bending his head towards me, and covering my lips with his.

The second that his lips touched mine, both our black wings spread out into the gorgeous white wings, flapping, letting us know that they can take us fly anywhere, whenever we want.

"How come... ?" I asked him, looking deep into his eyes.

"Because it is our wish to be together, it is our goal. And together we made it, this is when we succeed and can finally have our white wings."

There's nothing more I can say, tears just streaming down my cheeks, and I make no effort to stop it...

    Seth,

I haven't have any hopes ever since that certain person was gone in my life.
I haven't thought that I would ever come back, I will just be the only fallen angel in this world forever.

    Until I met you...

We are the same, being a fallen angel, able to see others wings.
But still, we are different, and you changed me.

Once, you were too bright for me to look straight at you.
How is it possible that you can keep your hopes up while being a fallen angel?
Then, you taught me something that I will never learn by myself, and I am ever so happy that I have met you.

You let me understand that being a fallen angel doesn't mean that you failed, you just need time to recharge yourself, and start things fresh again in order to succeed; you let me remember the friends that I still have with me instead of just thinking the one that I lost; and you're always there when I need you the most.
You pulled me out, I'm no longer in my own little world.

Thank you, Seth, for everything you've done for me.

    I love you.

    Emily
