    Chrono Busters
    Tyrant’s Rise

    Prologue

Everyone has their own story. At the beginning every story starts out the same, engaged with many others. Friends, family, and comrades all stand beside you ready to help whenever you need them. But over time every story takes a different path. Things happen, things we cannot stop or change. I guess that’s just how life is. Even though every story is different we all meet new people and new friends. Some say that everything that happens to us is predestined, but I don’t think so. I believe we write our own stories, we decide our own destiny, by our choices and our dreams.
My name is Ryo. This is my story listen to it, from beginning to end. Listen to how my choices and dreams decided my destiny. Listen to how they led me on the greatest adventure of my entire life.

    Chapter One
    Dreams… and War

My story begins in the city of Ragnarok. My sister Mina and I were running for City Central to see the Chrono Busters. “C’mon Ryo, if we don’t hurry we’re going to miss them!” she Shouted. I shouted back “You think I don’t know that!” Both of us dreamed of becoming Chrono Busters one day. The elite guard of the army that only the best got to enter. We were both thirteen and even though we didn’t look it we were indeed twins. Mina began running again her long black hair flowing behind her and the sun reflecting in her blue eyes. She always dressed in shorts and tank tops and her favorite tennis shoes with a head band across her forehead. I on the other hand had short brown hair and yellow eyes. People always said my eyes were like a cats, sharp and never missed a thing. I wore a blue t-shirt, pants, and a long black jacket without sleeves.
When we got to City Central we saw two members of the Chrono Busters, the elite guard of the army. Both of them were dressed in the black uniform of the chrono Busters. One of them we knew very well and recognized immediately. His name was Kublai swift blade no one in the world was a better swordsman than him. He had seen battle more times than I could count, the scars on his face proved this. The other was one Mina recognized easily. “look its Merrill the sonic.” She said. Her eyes were shining with joy. This was no surprise to me since Merrill had been her idol for long time
“Just wait in three years we’ll be able to join them and our names will be known everywhere just like them.” She said happily. I nodded “yeah, one day I’ll surpass Kublai and be known as the best swordsman in the Chrono Busters.” After the ceremony we left for home on the outskirts of the city and sat under our favorite tree. It was under this very tree where we started all of our dreams of becoming Chrono Busters. It was there under that tree that the world seemed so peaceful. However what we didn’t know was that was all about to change so fast our heads would spin and in that moment we would become strong.
I’ll never forget what happened next, not for as long as I live. It all started when the sun began to set and we had decided it was time to go inside. Then Mina spotted something in the sky “Hey, Ryo what’s that?” She asked. “Hm, uh I don’t know maybe it’s a comet.” She shook her head “I don’t think so, Ryo I’ve got a bad feeling about this.” It tuned out she was right. What happened next was horrifying the thing fell from the sky and crashed into the ground in the city. There was an explosion and you could hear the screams of thousands of people in the air. “What’s happening?” Mina screamed her eyes wide with fear. I was also horrified by what happened, but knew how to react. I took Mina by the wrist and ran for the house. “C’mon we need to get somewhere safe.” I shouted to her.
When we got inside we knew our parents wouldn’t be home due to their important positions in the police. Right now they would be organizing an evacuation of the city. I decided to learn more about the situation by turning on the TV. Mina had decided to look out the window to see what was happening. “Do you think Mom and Dad will be okay.” She asked worried. I looked at her, there were tears in her eyes and she was shaking. I decided to put on a smile and try to comfort her. “Don’t worry I’m sure they’ll be fine.” She smiled a little and nodded looking reassured. She came over and together we watched the TV to get information. “It would appear that the thing that struck the city was indeed a missile. Where it came from we do not know. What we do know is that the army and the local police have both decided to do a through investigation on the matter. Now let’s go to Jack with the commissioner of the police.”
“Thank you Kate, now I’m here with Commissioner Wyatt. So commissioner, what can you tell us about this thing so far?” Jack asked
At this point Mina sighed with relief “Thank god, Dads okay.” She said “Shh listen.” I told her.” Well not much but two things I can and want to say are that this thing was indeed launched most likely by terrorists. Also Ryo, Mina your mother and I are both fine don’t worry and don’t come into the city. “So that’s all you’re allowed to say, Commissioner?” jack asked with disappointment. “Yes, I’m afraid so. Also an evacuation will be underway shortly.” He replied. “Well there you have it people right from th…..
Right then the screen went completely blank as though the power had gone out in the house. Confused Mina asked “What happened?” “I… don’t know, maybe the missile knocked out the power” I replied. Then as if by magic the screen came back to life, but not on the same channel. Instead it came on in an entirely different place with a man in red and black armor sitting on what looked like a throne. “City of Ragnarok and the world, my name is Tyrant and I’m the one who attacked your city. I suppose you can think of this as a declaration of war.” He chuckled. “Also to show that I mean business the first city to fall to my reign will be…Ragnarok. I will make sure that there is nothing left of your city all though there may be a few survivors. After the city is brought down I will hoist my colors onto city hall and my reign will begin. After the fall of the city I will give the world twenty-four hours to make their decision to either surrender or go to war.” Tyrant laughed at this and shouted “TYRANT OUT!” After that the TV went completely blank nothing happened, our peace had ended so fast and people were in panic.
“W-war, Ryo I’m scared.” Said Mina. Her voice was shaking and there were tears in her eyes again. I wanted to comfort her, but just like her the thought of war scared the crap out of me too. So instead of lying to her I told her the truth. “It’s okay Mina, I’m scared too.” She chuckled and smiled. “But, I thought you weren’t afraid of anything.” She said. “Well not everything.” I replied. At that moment our worst fears came true, we could hear the blades of a helicopter. I told Mina to stay put and I rushed to the window and I saw fighter planes and helicopters flying toward the city. “Damn.” I ran back into the living room “Mina, let’s go we’ve got to get down to the basement it’s starting!” “W-what?” I took her by the wrist again and together we went down and hid in the basement. During that time only one thought went across my mind “I have to protect Mina if it’s the last thing I do.”
Once we had hidden I turned off the lights in the basement hoping we would survive. Above us we could hear gunfire and the crashing of planes all around us. It wasn’t until much later that we heard it, a door being smashed open. Someone was inside the house upstairs. Even in the darkness I knew Mina was crying silently in fear. I didn’t really blame after all the situation was going from bad to worse. I remember closing my eyes wishing for it to all go away, but I knew it wouldn’t. This was real and we were in real danger. Above us we heard foot steps and then they stopped. Mina whispered to me “Is he gone?” As if in answer the steel basement door was blast open. I had to hold Mina’s mouth closed to keep her from screaming out. “Whoa, this guys got enough weapons to supply a militia.” The soldier said. Right then and there I knew this guy was enemy, he wore the same symbol Tyrant had on his armor. “Hmm, there doesn’t seem to be anything down here but I’ll double check with my thermal sensors. Oh, well what do you know a couple of rats.” He chuckled. When he said that I knew he meant us, we had been found. I could hear him walking toward us he spoke into his microphone again “permission to terminate.” (Indistinct response) “Right I’ll make it quick then I’ll pull out, I’ll start with the girl.”
It was then, knowing my sister was in danger that I attacked. I picked up a close by sword and drew it. It was as though a whole new world had been opened up to me. I could see every shot he fired in slow motion, I could block and dodge every bullet. In that moment I felt truly invincible. “What the hell!” the soldier was yelling. In no more than a second I was in front him and stabbed him in the chest. The soldier dropped his gun and fell to his knees, “A…maz…ing.” Was the last thing that I heard him say.

    Chapter Two
    A Funerals Resolve
Returning to my senses I was shocked by what I had done. I stared wide-eyed at the dead soldier in front of me, I began shaking all over. Upon seeing my reaction Mina came over to me and tried to calm me down. “Ryo, its okay he would have killed us both if you hadn’t done that.” Even as she said that flashes of what had occurred kept appearing in my mind and it scared me. Cause in that instant I had learned just how sharp my eyes really were and I Didn’t know what to think about it. When I finally calmed down we decided to go upstairs to see if the battle was over. Fortunately, it was and the city was still ours and hadn’t fallen to Tyrant. Although it was a hollow victory. Most of the city was in ruins and even though many had survived the attack hundreds lay dead everywhere. Even the Chronos themselves had taken a blow. We had seen and heard this on the TV but, it wasn’t until Kublai himself came that we received the really bad news.
“Well, good to see that you two are all right.” Said a voice. Surprised we turned around to see Kublai in the door way. I could see from the bandages he had taken yet another wound the face. Although Kublai was a Chrono Buster we knew him well. He and Dad had been friends for a long time. When Mina saw him she smiled, but then it faded when she saw our parents weren’t with him. “Where’s Mom and Dad?” she asked. As soon as she asked this he looked down at his feet and I instantly realized why he was here. “I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news.” He said. By now Mina understood as well and tears were returning to her eyes. “Your parents were killed in action, apparently by one of Tyrants elite soldiers named Zeke.” He said sadly. “How do you know this.” I asked. “Because I fought with him tried to avenge my friends that’s how I got this wound on my face. To my shame I lost.” Mina was so broken up by all this she ran out of the room I myself felt as though the world had been completely torn apart. I wished that someone would jump out of the shadows and yell gotcha! But, again I knew this was reality and that this was no joke. “Is there going to be a funeral for them?” I asked. “Yeah, we’re going to be giving them a busters funeral for all the good they’ve done for the city.” He replied. I felt better when he said that since I knew that a Busters funeral was the greatest honor. “Thank You.”
“No problem, by the way did one of those soldiers break in?” He asked. I stared at the floor for a minute then answered, “Yeah, just one.” I could feel Kublai’s eyes staring at me and I knew another question was going to pop up soon. “Really well where is he now?” “Dead.” I replied. “I see and you killed him, huh.” “Yeah, he was about to kill Mina and me, so I just…” At that point Kublai sighed, “I see, so you put your sisters safety above your own, good job your father would be proud.” When he said that I finally felt like I had done the right thing.
Then thoughts about my parents came back to me. “Kublai, will the funeral be tomorrow.” I asked “Yeah, as long as Tyrant doesn’t decide to attack again.” He replied. After that I knew there was nothing to do but accept reality. I got up and started to walk toward my room. “After the funeral you two will be coming with me to Shineraq.” Kublai said. I turned around wide eyed. “The Chrono Buster Capital city, no way!” “Yep, we leave an hour after it’s over.” He replied. I was shocked to hear this and somewhat glad. “Okay, see you tomorrow.” I said.
When I got in my room I sat down on my bed and thought about everything that had happened so far. We had been attacked, forced into war, and my parents were dead. Then I thought about the man I killed. I wondered if he had a family of his own where he lived. “I had no choice.” I thought. “He would have killed us both.” I spent most of the night thinking about it. Wondering If I had really done the right thing? I found the idea of killing someone appalling and wondered why the soldier had smiled when he was about to shoot us. It was sickening.
Then there was a knock at the door. It opened and Mina stood in the doorway. “Ryo, you awake?” she asked. “Yeah, what’s wrong, couldn’t sleep?” I knew from the look of her eyes and face she had been crying for awhile. “It’s just, I can’t stop thinking about them. About mom and dad.” She sniffled. I looked at her and decided to try and cheer her up. “I know how you feel Mina. It’s almost as though the whole world has been torn apart leaving us in despair.” I told her “But, we can’t just cry for them all our lives. Mom and Dad wouldn’t want that.” She understood what I was trying to do and smiled. “I know.” She said as she wiped the tears away from her eyes.
“Ryo, is it alright if I stay in here for tonight.” She asked. “Sure you take the bed; I’ll sleep on the floor.” After that we were both able to sleep. We had nothing to fear as long as we were together.

The next mourning Mina and I woke up and remembered everything that had happened yesterday. Today was the funeral for our parents. We decided to get and get dressed. Mina wore a black dress and shoes. Along with a necklace mom had gotten her birthday. The necklace had a big silver heart hanging on it. When she’d gotten it had said she would only wear it for special occasions. I guessed this was one of those occasions. I had decided to wear a black shirt, jacket and pants. I also wore the black cowboy hat my dad got when we took a road trip to see some of the old western settlements. After we ate breakfast we went outside just in time to see Kublai arrive. He was wearing a new uniform that looked pretty official. “What’s with the getup?” I asked. He chuckled and said “That it was a special uniform that he wore for days like this.”
A minute later a car came to take us to the graveyard where our parents were being laid to rest. When we arrived there were already a lot of people in the graveyard. Most of them were friends from the police department. We recognized a few of them. The rest were surviving citizens from the city that wanted to wish their protectors goodbye. When the priest arrived everyone had already paid their respects to the fallen officers. “We are gathered here today to honor the deaths of Kyle and Julia Wyatt. Who died as they lived protecting their city and children. May they rest in peace.” After the new commissioner gave his speech about our parents we were all given a white rose to put on the coffins. When everyone finished putting their rose on the coffins several people that we recognized from the force came and picked up the coffins and placed them in their graves. Then it was over. I decided now would be the best time to tell Kublai what we wanted to do. I looked toward Mina and she nodded her head together we approached him.
“Kublai.” I said. He looked up and noticed the serious look our faces and responded “What is it? You want to stay a little longer.” “No, we-we want to join the Chrono Busters!” His eyes widened and got a serious look on his face. “You sure, the road to becoming a chrono is hard and long.” He said this time it was Mina’s turn to speak “We’ve never been surer of anything our entire lives.” Kublai smiled then turned around and chuckled. “All right then as soon as we get to Shineraq I’ll sign you two up. But remember it won’t be easy.” We nodded and knew that in that moment we had found our resolve.
