• "Wake her up. I'm tired of her whining."
I cracked a bleary eye open. So it wasn't a dream. I had actually met 3 talking cats living in an abandoned theater and they were immortal. Oh crap.
    "I said get up!"
That was Macy. I pushed myself up off the floor, and my whole body complained and resisted.
    "Hey boss, can I?"
Macy was a blurred figure and I could just make her out nodding. Some cold dropped down my back.
    "Yai!"
I howled and bolted up. I rubbed my eyes and danced and jiggled trying to get the cold to go away. Rabia was laughing so hard, her chubby butt nearly fell of the beam she was perched on.
"Oh that was classic! Genius! Bwuahaha!"
I roared and reached down the back of my shirt. I grabbed something and pulled it out. It was a fishhead. I clenched my teeth and hurled up at the beam where Rabia was perched. It hit her square in the head so hard she fell and landed with a splat.
    "Good thing you can't die."
    I murmured. Macy was snickering.
"Well, you must have gotten used to the idea by now I see that."
I grimaced and pushed myself as far away from her as possible. Rabia sulked in a corner, and turned around occasionally to cuss at me. Macy lept up and disappeared into the darkness. I remembered Logan, and tried to stay away from the dark places he could be hiding.
Suddenly the room was illuminated by bright white light. Macy had drawn back the heavy velvet curtains somehow, and now I could see the stage and the hundreds of seats, all lined with the same red velvet. It was beautiful, I could say that. Macy jumped onto my shoulder from above, nearly giving me a heart attack.
    "Don't do that."
I wheezed, bending over to get rid of the shock. Macy purred and wrapped her body around my neck. Her face was right next to my ear.
    "You can't leave."
That made my heart stop completely.
    "W-w-why n-not?"
My voice shook despite the effort I made to stay as calm as I could. I was about ready to beg to be let go. Macy looked at me solemnly with bright yellow eyes.
"Because you'd tell someone about us. And we can't take that chance."
Macy purred and licked her paw.
    "Who'd believe me!"
    I practically howled.
"Someone would put me in the crazy house!"
Macy looked over and Rabia, then back at me.
"But then, there's always the one who's a little more curious then dubious."
I felt my face go red and I looked at the ground.
"Now we could make you an immortal cat, like us. Or you could stay human and just live with us for the rest of your days."
I gulped and took the last little hope I had.
"What about my family? My mom and dad?"
A menacing snicker came from Rabia. Macy shot her down with a glare only she could give, and turned to me.
"It's been taken care of very delicately. Don't worry. Your parents have no memory of you anymore."
I clenched my fists and gave Macy such a look she lept off my shoulder and stood a safe distance from me. I lounged at her and she dodged me.
    "Listen, Addy,-"
    I cut her off.
    "It's Adiel."
Macy gave my a sympathic look.
"Listen, it's either be a cat, or go back to people who don't remember you anymore."
I swiped at my eyes and tried not to look like I was crying.
"So, how do I become a cat anyway?"
Macy looked at me proudly and called out to Logan and Rabia.
