• It was another year at my semi-boring school in my boring little town. I hated driving all the way across town wasting gas to learn absolutely nothing. I mean when we are going to use algebra in the real world. Never! Well if you got a job that requires you to know and use algebra then I guess you would need to learn it. I turned into the student parking lot and made my way to an empty space. It was so amazing looking for a parking space and seeing that all the groups parked together. Like the jocks, nerds, outcasts, preps, cheerleaders, and the druggies. I shook my head at the thought of being a druggy. I didn’t see how people could kill their needed brain cells to get the feeling of being high. I still don’t get after many years of having friends turn to drugs how they ended up turning. I parked my car with a hundred other cars surrounding me. I opened my door and had one foot out when I noticed a brand new pickup truck parked a few rows away. It was big, red, and glossy. I stepped out of my car and couldn’t stop myself from glancing over the hood of a big dented explore to get another look at the truck. The windows were tinted dark but I could see a dark figure in the driver’s seat. I saw the outline of a hand moving about. He was either talk on a cell phone or talking to himself. I wanted to get a closer look but didn’t want to seem like to much of a freak. I rolled my eyes and crawled in for my book bag. I stood up straight and slipped my arm through my bag strap. I felt the heat from the cooling cars around me. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I began to feel dizzy. I looked around searching for Jamie’s car. I finally spot it a few cars down. I slammed my car door shut, and made my way over to her car. When I got there, I dropped my bag on the car’s hood and it made a big bang that made Jamie almost jump out of her skin. She looked at me through her windshield and sighed.
“God Faith,” I tilted my head acting all innocent. “Why’d you go and do that for?” She asked crawling into the back of her car. I laughed and leaned against the car hood.
“I don’t know I was bored.” I pushed off the hood noticing that it was still hot. She grabbed her backpack from the passenger seat and climbed out.
“Your bored,” I nodded with a yawn. “Well your not the only one, Faith.” She said slipping an arm through her backpack strap. She squinted towards the school and wiped a hand across her brow. It was another scorching day out. The sun bounced off the asphalt and hit your body like a heat wave. I wiped a hand over my face. As we made our way across the parking lot to the doors of the most horrifying place on earth, I just had to get another look at the truck. It wasn’t everyday that you saw something brand new in this town. I stopped and turned my head the direction the truck was suppose to be, but it wasn’t there. I glanced around thinking I that I had it wrong. I looked to my car and counted the rows to where the truck was parked. I came to the empty space again. I notched my brow and mutter, “There was a truck there…right.”
“You okay Faith?” Jamie asked with her hand on the door. I shook my head getting rid of the thought. I turned around and smiled up at Jamie.
“Yeah,” I said bouncing up the steps next to her. “I’m fine.” She pulled open the door and we made our way into the icy hallways.
“So me and Max are dating again.” Jamie says stopping at the water fountain outside of the main office. I felt my eyes grow wide with surprise.
“Why?” I asked. She laughed and wiped her mouth with the back of her hand.
“I don’t know.” We continued to make our way to the bulletin board outside of the counselors office.
“I thought it was officially over between you too.” I said side stepping a lost freshmen. Jamie shrugged and continued to walk like she hadn’t just delivered major news.
“I did too but when I saw Max at the mall two weeks ago-” I stopped and glared at her.
“The mall…,” She stopped and gave me a nervous smile. “You went to the mall when I need your help painting my room?” I asked. She gave me a slow nod.
“Yea- I mean no.” I stormed away full of rage. She had to jog to keep up with me.
“Look, I’m sorry.” I didn’t even look back I was so mad.
“I just can’t believe you,” I shouted. I spun around. “You make me feel bad when I’m not there if you need my help. And when I need your help to do something that I need you just blow me off.” I shook my head and turned around to looked at the bulletin board. I found my name and saw that I was to go to room 302. Great Mr. Cain. I thought. Jamie stepped forward from the crowd now forming around us.
“Room 302.” She said. I shot down the list and saw that she too was in room 302. I sighed an angry sigh and back away pushing myself through the crowd of smelly kids. When I made my way out of the crowd and walking down the hallway I couldn’t stop from thinking of how Jamie had changed. She never used to lie to me. Ever since she started to date Max she changed. If he was around you could not go anywhere near Jamie and him. Jamie was his girl and she just need him. At least that’s what his answer would be when you would call wanting to talk to Jamie.
“Wait up!” She yelled from down the hall. I stopped and glanced behind me. She was panting and sweaty from all the activity. I turned around to face her as she ran up and bent forward hands on her knees. I could help but laugh at her. She glanced up through damp bangs and growled. I smiled and we made our way to Mr. Cain’s classroom of hell.
