• Afew days past since the cereal incident, which might I add that nothing happened afterward expect Hevrey walking in, laughing at me, then him and Jace left. Leaving me to clean up the kitchen by myself. Sometimes I hate my brother. Stupid jerk. Considering that there is only four more days of summer left until school starts. Counting today, too, of course. A ritual of mine is to spend the last few days of summer in a vampire-like coma, only waking to eat and shower.Obviously not today....

The phone was on war mode with me this mourning. Annoyed, I pulled my pillow over my head, trying my hardest to tune it out. Surely mom would get it.Unfortunately as my luck would have it, it continued its irritating noise. I dragged my dead body out of bed. 'Not Happy' could have been stamped on my forehead or better yet 'Murder'.

"Yes?" I asked, but my throat was still asleep so it sounded weird. I coughed and tried again. "Yeah?"
    "Cassie?" Hevrey. How dare he.
"Um-hum." Rubbing at my eyes, I stole a glace at my alarm clock. 8:17 am.
"Yeah. Listen, do me a favor?"
"What?" First chance, I get I'm punching him in the face, I thought to myself.
    "Come get me."
"Now?!?" My bed never looked so tempting.
    "Could you?" He whined.
I moaned and stared up at my ceiling, taking in a deep breath. "Where are you?"
    "Jenny's."
"Did you two get into a fight again?" Jenny was this summer's fling. And like all the othersin the past years it always ended a day or two before school.
There was a silence on the other end before he sighed. "Yes."
"Uh, I'll be there in..." I glaced back at the alarm. "..ten minutes?"
    "Thanks and sis?"
    "yeah?"
    "Love you."

"You had better." I hung up the phone, took off my pajama bottoms and slid into some old jeans thatI hadhad since I was a freshman. I didn't even bother aboutmy shirt. Everyone was wearing tank-tops in this heat so I wouldn't stand out that bad. Walking down the stairs I noticed mom's office light was on. Barely pressing on the door, I peeked inside to find it empty, which was normal. Mom wasn't really home that much anymore. Hevrey and I only see her once every three or four month's. It's been like this since the 8th grade, when dad just gotup and left saying 'he couldn't take the city life anymore. That it was sucking the life out of him.' Mom just kinda turned into a work-zombie after that. Sighing, I turned off the light and grabbed my keys from the table beside the door.

I would like to tell you I have an awesome car. Regretfully, that would be lying. I have a powder-blue Volkswagon bugg with a radio that doesn't work unless you kicked it in the right way and sometimes my window wipers would come on for no reason at all, same goes for the car alarm. If anything it is a crappy demon car. I packed infront of Jenny's apart ment and got out.

I had to knock because I couldn't find her doorbell. I waited for a minute or two. I knocked again. "Cassandra, you need some help?" The voice sounded familiar. I turned around and shielded my eyes from the morning sun. Jace was standing by a white pickup, parked across the street.

"Well," I began, not sure if I needed help or not " have you seen Hevrey?" I stepped down off the porch. It seemed stupid to me to talk across a street at someone while being pressed up against a door.
So did Jace, because he crossed the street, walking up until he was only afew inches away from me. Total not respecting the bubble rule.
    "He just left with Blake."
I closed my eyes tight and murmured "I'm going to kill him."
    He chuckled."
"You only think I'm kidding." I said darkly. I could be sleeping right now! Not chasing after my brother in 110 degree weather.
"He told me you'd say something like that. He told me to tell you, he tryed your cell but.."
Opening my eyes, I stared over at my demon car. "Why are you here anyway?"
"I live over there." He jerked a thumb back to the place the white truck was parked infront of.
    "Are you always straight forward?"
" Only on special weeks and holidays." He replied smiling.
"Todays a Tuesday, and its not a holiday." I muttered irritably.
    "Are you sure?"
    "......Yes?"
"Nope. Its Make Up Your Own Holiday Day." He countered, grinning.
    "It is not!"
"Do I look like I would lie to you?" He made a failed attemped of a pouty face.
I smiled, shakingmy head. "Thats not a holiday!"
"To me it is!" He's smile got wider.
Laughing I took a step to my car "Good luck with that-" That insant my knees buckled again and I went flying/falling back. This time I was caught instead of hitting the floor...sidewalk.
"You okay?" Jace asked, his pretty face way to close to minewith one arm warped around my waist and another behind my neck holding me up.
"My mind went blank. Link nothing. Zip. Nada."I-I...I have weak ankles!" I blurted out in a high sqeaky voice and scrambled to my car. "Thanks and, umm, bye!" I didn't wait for a reply.
The whole ride home I replayed both scenes with him in my mind over and over. The whole knee buckling thing has never happened before, ever. Yeah, I was a kluz, but not that bad.

I must be coming down with something.
