• Blood Red: Prologue

A man walked through the camp, carefully dodging past anyone who walked in his way. His long, strong legs allowed him to move quickly to his destination. He was a tall, well-built man with long, dark red hair. Sticking out of his hair were two pointed ears...The ears of an elf. He had two long, thin blades, made for speed, strapped to his sides.
The man got to his tent and walked inside. He dropped down onto his cot and cot and pulled one of his blades from its sheath. The blade was truly a masterpiece. It had a gold hilt with a perfectly cut oval blood red ruby in the center. The hilt's shape perfectly fit his grip.
And then there was the blade itself...It had a long, sleek shape that could make a perfect, clean cut. The blade was as black as night, but had spots of dried blood on it.
Just as he started to clean the blade another man walked into the tent. This man looked identical to the first. The only difference was that his hair was ebony and he had a large broadsword on his back, rather then two small blades at his sides.
The other man looked up from his bloodied blade and quietly said, "Greetings Xyun," and went back to work.
The one called Xyun walked to the opposite side of the tent. He dropped the large sword on the ground and fell backwards onto his cot. "You should get to bed right away, Captain Kynlessa said she will be walking around making sure everyone is asleep." Xyun got into a more comfortable position and continued, "She even said, 'Everyone to sleep now, especially Selenzr.'"
Selenzr sheathed the now spotless blade and pulled out the other to clean. This blade was just as glorious as the other, although it was almost completely covered with blood.
Without looking up from his work, Selenzr growled, "You are forgetting something my brother. I am of the same rank as her. I am not permitted to follow her orders. I obey our king and nobody else. If you ask me, I don't even think Kynlessa deserves to hold the rank of captain!"
"Okay, you can do whatever you want but I'm going to sleep," mumbled Xyun as he closed his eyes and fell into a deep sleep.
Selenzr finished cleaning the second blade and put it in its sheath. He placed the two blades on the table next to him and stood up. He pulled off his tunic and leggings and neatly folded them. He wore no armor besides a black chainmail shirt and black chainmail pants. He would normally wear more armor but he knew the previous battle was to be quick and easy. Tomorrow, he heard, was to be different, though. The last few attacks had been on small towns with little or no protection. Tomorrow they were attacking one of the major cities of the empire, Aldurvar.
Selenzr thought about the upcoming fight for a while and then went to sleep. He dreamed about the day's battle. It was actually more of a slaughter then a battle. They were elves. The humans were no match for them, especially the villagers without any fighting experience.
