‘I have no time for this! Well, OK, I do since I’m not late for school yet or anything, but I will be if I listen to her!’ Thus ran the thoughts of Serena as Marcia, Serena’s inexplicably best friend, snatched her arm and began to talk about how her day went.

“Oh my God, Serena! I haven’t seen you for the whole weekend! I have to tell you everything now! OK, so after I got home from school on Friday I went and dumped my homework on the floor because homework sucks and then I tried to call you but for some reason your Uncle said you were out so I was really mad at him because I think he was just telling me that because he wanted to get back to his television show, so I guess he’s really addicted to those shows, you know? I think you should talk to him about it, because that can’t be healthy, it reminds me of a website I was looking at just the other year or so about how today’s generation is too addicted to television and other media in general although your Uncle is more like last generation which is called the Baby Boom Generation isn’t it-“

Serena stopped listening after that, and didn’t even bother to nod and make um-humming noises. Marcia probably wouldn’t notice, and Serena was too busy concentrating on keeping up with Marcia without Marcia inadvertently ripping her arm off.

Marcia was so hard to keep up with because she was so much taller then Serena, by at least a head. She was very lithe too, and moved quickly. Her luxurious, curly, chestnut colored hair bounced along with her as she walked. It was cut into a short bob and contrasted strongly with Marcia’s exceedingly pale skin. Her wide brown eyes darted towards Serena.

“What do you think of my outfit today?” She asked suddenly. “Uh.” Serena said obligingly, unused to being asked questions suddenly. Even though it was a chilly day, Marcia had chosen to dress in a red tube top and a pair of red and black striped short-shorts, along with a long beady red and white necklace. Serena thought about pointing out that the teachers would probably make her go home and change, but was unable to spit it out because Marcia was enthusiastically suggesting they ram into the front door.

“Wait, what?!” Serena yelped, frantically trying to pry Marcia’s fingers away from her arm.

However it was too late, and Marcia ran into the front door with a loud cracking noise, dropping Serena’s arm upon contact.

Immediately Serena felt guilty for how resentfully she’d put up with Marcia’s talking. Marcia was a nice girl after all… She didn’t deserve this…

“Hey… did I break anything?” Marcia said, turning around to face Serena,

Serena stared up at her open-mouthed. Marcia didn’t even look injured! That idiot, why did she run into the door like that, was she crazy?!

“You look fine.” Serena said resentfully. “The door on the other hand, is probably broken.” Marcia sighed bitterly. “Aw, I was hoping I broke my nose, because it’s stinging and everything.” Serena was about to question why Marcia would want to break her nose, but she grabbed Serena’s arm and started to drag her to class.

Fortunately Marcia was in the ninth grade, just below Serena’s grade, and had a different first class of the day. So while Serena was left in History to catch her breath, Marcia darted off to Science while yelling out something about visiting Serena later, after she got out of the nurse’s office.

Serena just nodded and smiled artificially. It occurred to her that after History, she had English, where she would be partnered up with Christian. She could give him the bracelet, and he’d be happy. As Serena sauntered into her class, her smile was genuine this time around.
