• tab Jamnaya slowly opened the door of the abandoned cathedral. The stain glass windows depicting bible stories reflected the darkness of the midnight sky. There was a woman in the front, standing on the pulpit. She wore a long, black trench coat. Her hair covered her eyes and the only thing visible was her mouth. Which, compared to her skin was oddly blood red. She was pale, almost transparent. She had short, black hair, down to about her shoulders and the right side was much longer than the left. She was a bit shorter than Jamnaya but was just as fast. She had a small body but everything was in great proportion.

tab She was thin and fit but you couldn’t tell because of the trench coat. And, going off memory, Jamnaya knew she was wearing her solid black, heart shaped locket. Never once had he seen her without it on. It was like a mysterious little trinket, but he’d never ask, for that was the code. Everyone had a reason to be in the H.U.R.T. and that was their business. “Sonye” he said loudly in monotone, to the woman and his voice echoed. She disappeared and in five seconds flat she was behind him and said “bang bang, you’re dead!” and added “tehe! I win again!”

tab “Oh no. you got me.” Jamnaya said in a half-hearted monotone type way. “Aw! You’re no fair! You let me win!” she said. No one knew how old she was but her voice made it seem like she was a lot younger. It was high pitched and playful. She began to pout “come on, me and you; let’s see who’s stronger right now!” Sonye suggested. “There’s business to take of first” he replied and just as he did he was punched in the face, so hard he began bleeding. “What the h*!! was that for, and d**n you’re strong! It takes a lot to make me bleed!” he said pulling out of his monotone for a moment. “Why the h*!! didn’t you tell me we had work to do earlier you idiot!” she shouted. “I tried to! You came running at me before I could speak remember?! And could you keep your voice down?” “Sorry! And don’t tell me to be quiet! I’m a grown woman!” she said quickly changing from sincere to mad.

tab “Oh! Do I get to sneak?” Sonye asked “yes Sonye, we have to sneak” “Oh! That’s my favorite part!” she said and laid down on the back pew next to Jamnaya’s shadowy figure standing in the aisle. “So, who do I kill this time? Some jerk that killed his family?” “Not quite, we don’t have to kill anyone-” “or is it someone from the huiba clan who went crazy and killed someone or-” “we just need to alert the guard squad that we’re on watch” Jamnaya said before Sonye’s imagination took her completely away. “So where does the sneaking come in?” Sonye looked puzzled but was still looking at the full moon outside through the stained glass on the ceiling.

tab “Well, those monsters I told you about-” “you mean the ones with the black eyes and the pale faces and the fangs and the-” “yes those ones” Jamnaya said just in time, she spoke so fast she couldn’t breathe and her face was turning blue. “Well, they’re bound to attack some time. You’re the strongest person I know and trust and the most stealthy. What I want you to do, Sonye, is sneak to the guards, tell them to be on extra alert for those monsters, and help them keep watch if needed. Any problems and you know how to contact me.”

tab At this, Sonye sat up and a big grin showed up on her face. “Ok! Piece of cake! But . . . I’ll only do it if-” “if what?” “If I can give you a big hug!” she smirked. “A hug?!” Jamnaya asked in awe. “Yep! That’s it! Just one hug.” she said as she stood up with her hands out toward him. She walked closer and wrapped her arms around him and he was oddly warm. As she hugged him, she realized he was just standing there, stunned. He didn’t hug her back; his hands were glued to his sides. “I said hug me!” she yelled and his hands quickly moved to hold her. “You know,” Sonye began “if this were real, I’d be happy” soon thereafter she vanished. “What?” Jamnaya said to thin air, for she was gone before he knew it. “Well, I guess I should get going soon as well” he said to himself, and left just as quickly as Sonye had.

tab Jamnaya went north and Sonye went south. As each of them came to a guard squad, they realized all of the guards knew about the creatures and were severely cut down in numbers. After about 20 squads, Sonye felt as though she were being followed. So, she didn’t change her pace, not even her heart rate slowed. As soon as they were close enough to analyze, she stopped and calculated the situation. And soon she spoke “you know I know your there, so lets cut the crap and come out so I can kill you already. I have things to do” she said in a brisk tone, forgetting her normal playful tone. Two men and women walked out from behind the shadows. They were just as Jamnaya had warned her about.
