~Jax, what are you thinking? You do know that if you go through with this, you’re in it for life? And that in it’s self may be very short.~ I seriously have to stop thinking like that. Pessimism will only get me killed. ~Hey, it’s realism.~
I knocked my head into the tree next to me to clear my head. But my conscious was right. ~I’m always right~. Shut up! Anyway, this was by far the riskiest thing I’ve ever done. Breaking into the City parliament, not the pretty one the actual one was tough. The place was a death trap for trespassers. Motion sensors, heat traps, cameras, guards, and dogs. Well just move and see what happens.
With the layout of guard equipment, I crisscrossed across the cement patios, across roves and through dumpsters. You would not believe the stuff burecrats throw away. Well it took about two hours to cross into a good entry point. The trash chute. It smelled horrific and felt worse. But I climed in and moved through. All the while the dream kept playing through my mind.
Finally I found my target. Filing. I came in quick and quit, careful to avoid the notice of the motion activated camera by the door. Then I set to my work, personnel files. Found what I was looking for under the name Hallman Guru, Head if security and internal defense. It seemed he’d been making a push for more P.R. and made several attempts for the counsel. Not odd, but maybe it was what I was looking for.
I had to follow this. ~Next stop, more complications.~
His office wasn’t that hard to find. Still I was amazed at the amount of staff there this late. But the lock was a cinch. After shuffling through his s**t, and pilfering his scotch I found what my intentions needed finance.
I found the odd end here and there. But that is to be expected, what caught my eye though was personal security. An abnormal amount of money was in there. But what really got me going was the head, Bernard Campbell.
I finally found him.
The man who caused all my troubles.
The cause of so much pain.
I finally found Devry.
Halman Devry Guru Moved with ease through the oh so familiar halls. Right down to his office. Nothing was out of the ordinary, from what he saw inside. Until he felt the knife at his back.
“Good evening Jax.”
“Devry.”
“I would say you are a hard man to kill, but you’re not a man. But I am glad to see you found me sooner than expected.”
“Why are you playing the sides? Is it for power? Control?”
“You really think I’d tell you. You have a nasty survival streak. And I’m not going to risk it.”
“Tell me you son of a bi-“Devry flicked his finger and mechanics went to work.
I heard the mechanism start, but I couldn’t dodge it. Something very very hard smashed my ribs, sending me toppling to the floor. He stood over me, smiling. I tried to figure out what happened and move. But my torso screamed in pain.
“You want to know don’t you?” He said pulling back at his left sleeve. “Human flesh is so weak. Too weak. So I replaced it.” He finished pulling away the sleeve, revealing matt black metal, in the shape of a human arm and hand. “Now I really, can’t let you leave. Not like you were going to anyway.” He laughed lightly and plucked up me knife, Smiling deviously all the way.
~Oh s**t.~
