• The cold night air greeted me as I walked through the town headed to one place. My mind set on one goal and one goal only, a tall glass of Ale, to warm the bones and feed my aching body and mind. The bar doors where open and the closer I got the louder the ideal chatter of the people after a hard day of work got. Heading inside the bar I found an open bar stool and sat down.

“Barkeep one cold Ale, and how much?” While shouting above the ideal chatter for my voice to be heard, I spotted something odd in the room; a change in the scenery, just a flicker at one point in the room that nobody seems to see, but me.

“Lady, I said the Ale is two coins. Do you want one, or not?” The Barkeeps face was turning a little red and I just realized that he had been speaking to me for some time.

“Sorry Barkeep, yes one ale and here’s the money.”

“Here.” The Barkeep basically throws the Ale at me and he gruffly walks away.

“Gee, thanks.” I take a sip and the cold liquid going down my throat feels refreshing and welcoming. In the middle of my next sip a man, with a crimson cape dotted with specs of what I thought was grass, speaks to me.

“If that man was any nicer the king might lower taxes as a celebration!” Laughing at his own joke the man in crimson takes a sip of his beverage. “Nice to meet you pretty lady my names kNight, might inquire your name?”

“If my name is all you seek then no my name I will not give. Plus you smell worse than the farmers’ pigs, surly if you wish to inquire something you could do it better smelling, you might actually get some answers.” I get up to walk away when he grabs my wrist.

“Won’t tell me your name, huh?” He smiles at me as his eyes twinkle. “Then I guess I’ll just have to give you a name, you destroyed any chance of a light hearted conversation with your nasty remarks so it is my honor to meet you, Destroyer.” He bowed with one hand and the other he put behind his back as he said my ‘name’, letting go of my wrist in the process.

I took the opportunity and walked out the door heading anywhere but next to that man, kNight. Of course since I had seemed to peaked his interest he followed me into to the street, calling my name over and over again in a sing song voice.

“Destroyer, Destroyer, might I fancy conversation, a light hearted conversation, maybe if we like the topic! We could talk some more. You saw it too, oh mighty Destroyer.” I stopped walking as he said the last bit and turned around.

“What might I have seen, that you say you saw? kNight? With the stench that could kill!”

Laughing he walked towards me and started talking, “That change, how the bar went from one reality to the same one but it had shifted, melted into place. As if there was a hole where that chunk of space was, so the universe had to take something and use it to move forward. Used that something and I think it was you Destroyer. So you are aptly named. But it’s and ironic name because you saved time, the universe, this world, or just these people but what will happen with you?” He stood in front of me now staring at me as if I could give him all the answers he looked for.

“I never saw this shift or melt that you think I saw. Good night Sir kNight. Have pleasant journeys and cold showers.” I turned around and started running home, or the only home I had, while kNight kept shouting at me, words, sounds, things I blocked out.

When I could no longer hear his voice I dropped to the ground and started crying. What is happing to me? What am I? Am I a normal person or am I just something used to plug holes in the realities that were in? That there in. What happens to me? Do I disappear, or am I just going to be alone.
