One dreary day, in 1878, a beautiful British 18-year old girl was to be wed to a man she did not love. This day she got the courage to ask her mother. “Mother, why am I marrying this man? You know I do not love him, so why put me through the pain?” Her mother put on a face as though she had been lied to by the most truthful person ever. She replied with “Foolish Girl! This marriage will labor you and lift the shame that has been in our family for years!” Antoinette has always despised her mother. But she has always had a dream. A wonderful dream she was sure would come true. Until now. She had the dream of having ghost-like powers. Ones that would set her free from her family, and make her life a lot easier. Before her wedding bath, the groom’s mother knocked and said, “ A gift for the bride!” And handed the girl a strange looking box with brown wrapping paper. The girl opened the gift and lifted out a strange smelling soap. She put it in her bath and didn’t notice the purple and green bubbles popping up. So, she slipped in. As she soaked and rinsed her long blond hair she began to feel herself drifting into thin air. Suddenly, Antoinette heard a call from downstairs. “Antoinette!!! Come down and greet your father.” Antoinette blew a big sigh and she stepped, or tried to step out the bath and went right through floor and straight to the living room. She stared all around her. Antoinette was astonished by the sight. There was her mother and father right in front her, and she was naked. She covered up with a blanket and greeted her father. “I am so embarrassed right now. But, hello father.” No answer. She repeated herself. “Father? Hello? Mother? MOTHER!?” She looked at her hands and screamed. “What’s happened to me?!” She was completely invisible to the mortals eye! “ This is... amazing. I'M FREE!!!!!!” She whooped one more time and headed upstairs to pack. “I am finally getting out of this horrible place!” Antoinette was now aware that mortals could not see her or hear her. But they could still here the foot steps that creaked as she raced to her room. As Antoinette threw her closet doors open she realized a scream coming from down stairs.
“KILL IT! I DON'T CARE WHAT IT IS JUST KILL IT!” Antoinette’s mother screamed and raced up the stairs and right into Antoinette room.
“Antoinette!!!! Where are you dear? Someone’s in here!” Her mother seemed petrified. Antoinette put on some clothes, even though it didn't really matter. She continued to pack while her mother looked for her. “ Antoinette?! Honey, that thing must have taken our dear Antoinette! ANTOINETTE!” Antoinette started to cry. “ How will I ever be able to talk to my mother again?” She felt a sudden pain. She looked at her hands as they started to become visible! She ran to hide behind her bed. Her mother looked surprised. “ Honey! I think I just heard her voice! Antoinette!”
Antoinette raced to hug her mother as her mother entered the room.
“I had to hide for I heard that someone was in the house!” Antoinette shuddered trying to imagine what her mother and father would do if she had told them the truth.
“ Antoinette? Why . . . Why, what’s the matter?” Antoinette had a guilty look on her face for she had never lied to her mother. She wanted to tell her mother that there was no one in the house and that it was for she had become invisible . But Antoinette knew that her mother would never believe her.
In the meanwhile Antoinette’s father had been sitting on the sofa downstairs listening to the girls conversation with a questioning face. Long age Antoinette’s father had been told that whomever lives in this house will be cursed. Cursed with all the things that have never happened to the last families that lived in this home long before.
Antoinette still wondered about her groom. She didn't love him, so why would she have to marry him? After her questioning, she wondered about still running away. She was surprised her mom did not see her suitcase lying with clothes inside.
She looked down at her feet as they disappeared. Suddenly, her candle blew itself out. Her window spread wide open. The wind was dragging her out! She screamed, and not like she wanted to. Her scream turned into a moan, and she floated outside. Crying, she discovered that she had nothing to fear. She felt the freeness of the breezy air outside, and that she could float.
Antoinette’s life changed after that day. But reader, the story is not even close to be finished. It had just begun. Antoinette had never married the groom, and was now living by herself. She is now 24, and never returned home or seen her parents since she was forced out the window. She had learned how to control her powers, and her parents must care a lot, because she had seen 50 officers patrolling the area. She learned how to fly, and control her invisibility. Now she is flying, high above her village, invisible, without a care in the world.
She lives in London, doing all the things a regular person can, except she is not one herself. She has a high-paying job, and she goes shopping, all the time. But one day her sanity told her to not to go shopping this very day. She refused to not go, until she saw why.
Her mother, with a more wrinkled face, and her father, with gray hair, were stealing food from the café. 12 croissants taken, 3 bagels, and they even stole someone’s coffee while they paid. They ran to the alleyway next to it and munched like they haven’t eaten in days. Antoinette thought she should go see them, but thought against it. She didn’t think they had a home, because it didn’t look like it. Their clothes were dirty, and her mom was wearing my father’s other pants. But, maybe they will love to see her? Antoinette sighed. She floated down and hid behind a buggy. Invisibility off, and she was ready to see them again for the first time in 6 years. Would they remember her?
She walked briskly around to see if they would notice her, but it was no use. They looked at her, and backed away until Antoinette called out “Mother? Father?” Her mother stared and stared, until a huge smile spread across her face and called out “ANTOINETTE!!!!!!” Her mother raced to give her a hug, but unfortunately Antoinette turned invisible. Antoinette was horrified and ran away quickly, but stumbled. Her mother screamed and her father was reassuring her. Until... Boom.
