• “Break a leg!!!!” my mom yelled as she drove off. I looked up at my new school and gulped. Moving here had cost an arm and a leg, but mom thought it would be best.
I walked to the office to get my schedule and my locker combination. Once I got them, I went to my locker and put by books in it.
I went ahead, and went to first period early. I had English. I met a girl named Amber while I was waiting for class to start. She said she would show me around. It felt nice to know I wasn’t all alone.
“OK class! Settle down!! I would like to tell you that today we got a new student! Lily, if you could please stand up.” Mrs. Holland looked at me expectantly. As I stood up I turned bright red. Just great. I hurried to sit back down.
“Anyways, I want all of you to write a story about something important that had happened in your life. I expect all of you to pass with flying colors!” She smiled.
I walked out of class thinking of what I could write my story about, only to be stopped by a pack of girls. One of them stepped forward.
“Bet you were just tickled pink by Mrs. Holland’s introduction of you.” She smirked. “You may be the new girl,” She continued,” but I rule this school, and the sooner you learn that, the better.” She flipped her hair then strutted off, with her giggling posse close behind.
“Don’t worry, her bark is way worse then her bite,” Amber, who had been standing next to me, told me. “Though, you may want to be careful around her.” She added.
The rest of my day passed by uneventfully. When I got home I started to think of what I could write about in my story for English. There was only one thing I could think of that was important that had happened in my life. I spent the whole night writing.
At the end of the week it was time to present our stories. “Who wants to go first?” Mrs. Holland questioned. No one raised their hand. “Well then… Lily, why don’t you go first?” I slowly walked up to the front of the class. As I sat my paper down on the podium, I looked up for a second at my classmates, before beginning.
“About two years ago my brother Josh was diagnosed with Leukemia. He seemed fine, at first. He was still able to go to school and do normal things. I thought he would be fine. He always told me “Don’t worry. It won’t last forever.” But soon he started to get weaker. He had to stop going to school and stay in bed. My mom would always tell me “Every cloud has a silver lining.” It always made me feel better. After that, he was always sick. The treatment wasn’t helping at all. I remembered when he used to be full of energy, jumping around all the time. Now he could barely walk. One day my mom went berserk and asked my dad for a divorce. Two months later, and the treatment had been stopped. The cancer was to severe. Josh died a month after that. It was one of the worst days of my life. 6 months after that my parents were officially divorced. Soon after that my mom thought we should start out on a clean slate and stop crying over spilled milk, so we moved.”
I looked up from the paper with tears in my eyes, to find everyone staring at me in shock, even Mrs. Holland. When I started to head back to my seat everything seemed to start to move again.
“Wait Lily. Does anyone have any questions?” Mrs. Holland asked, looking as if she had a few herself. Almost everyone’s hand shot up this time.
“Adrianna, how about you?” Mrs. Holland said. So that was that evil girl’s name.
“Did that actually happen???” she asked. She acted as if there was no possible way that could have ever happened to me. “Yes it did. I wouldn’t be here if it hadn’t.” That was all she asked. Another girl raised her hand, and Mrs. Holland asked her what her question was.
“What was the last thing he said to you?” The girl asked. “He said, that it was his time to go, and that if he was gone tomorrow, that his memory would live on with me forever.”
