• The Peacock Warrior
Many years ago my mother left me in the at the palace in the care of the empress. The emperor wanted me killed but the empress told him that if he had me killed she would never give him a son. So I was adopted and made a princess. Pampered, spoilt, protected, and so alone. I didn’t have any friends outside the palace or even inside except for my mother who raised me like her own child. As I grew older she showed me her favorite places in the palace, from the gardens to the music room. But the one she loved the most was the Peacock Room. When she first showed it to me I could not believe the sight I saw. All around I saw soft yellow gold and dark green every where and there was even a coule of peacock paintings and drawings on the walls. Over the mantle was a painting of my mother when she was a young woman. Over time the more we visited the room the more I learned the truth about her. She was the one of many who were planning on stopping the emperor’s crual tyranny. To those in the palace she was just the empress, but to the Rebellion, as they were known, she was the Peacock Warrior.
When the time was right she would kill the emperor and her brother would take the throne. I asked her why she told me about it and she told me that my parents were part of the Rebellion and when my father died she told my mother that she would train me and raise me like her own. She was with child and the time was almost near the time of the attack and a new beginning, but the day my mother gave birth to my baby brother was the day she died.
My brother survived and before her spirit left her body she called me to her bed side. She told me all the training we have done over the years was to prepare me. Because she was dying she wold not be able to fufill her mission. Now it was up to me to stop the emperor. She reached over and placed in my hands a katana adorned with golds and greens and blues. Now I was a true warrior and that it was my duty to help fight for freedom. I knelt down and held the katana in my hands and bowed to her saying that I accept the honor and duty that was given to me. She passed a way with a smile on her face knowing I would fight for the freedom of the people and the freedom for my brother. Three day after her funeral the Rebellion attacked. In my room I heard the soldiers running around grabbing other soldiers and I knew that it was time. I put on the closhes my mother left for me and grabbed my sword. Before I left my room I saw my myself in the mirror and knew that I was a true warrior. Swiftly and quietly I made my way to the emperor’s room and made my way to his sleeping form and killed him. I heard running down the halls and blended in with darkness. When the door opened I saw a man who looked short of like my mother and walked to the now dead emperors bed. My sword was ready to attack and he said that there was nothing to fear that he would not dare hurt his own niece. Coming out of the shadows I heard my brother wailling so I want to his crib to console him. The soldiers came a moment later and did not arrest me or my uncle because they knew the nightmare was over. A few day later my uncle and his beloved were married and were made the new rulers. That day was the happiest day in the whole palace. Now as I grew older I’m still know as the Peacock warrior but I know that my mother and others before me were the true warriors. I tell my brother the story of the Peacock warrior when we’re in the Peacock Room and I even tell him about our mother. He once aske me what a Peacock warrior was and I told him that a Peacock warrior was beautiful to look at, but a hard fighter that accepts the honor and duty that is given to them. One day I was with my brother and my aunt in the gardens when a soldier found a small bundle and brought it to me. That day I found my daughter and the next Peacock warrior.
