• Chapter 1: Yesterday, I was a little girl in the country

When I was a little girl, my mother died of cancer. My father had left us a long time ago, and since then, my mother became ill. I was sent to live with my grandmother in the country side. The thing is, by that time, she was really old and delicate. Therefor, I was the one taking care of her instead of the other way around.

I remember perfectly the summers I used to spend there. Everyday was sunny and breezy. I dare say those were the happiest moments of my life. My name is Kyra Blue, and yesterday, I was a little girl in the country.

I remember a certain day, in those clear, blue skies, when the wind was blowing hard against my bronze skin and my wavy dark hair. I was running through the giant fields with a bubble blower. As I ran, the big bubbles formed with the wind. By my side, ran Jovie, a stray dog that lived near by our small cottage. He was friendly and he really seemed to like me. He was my only friend.

I ran to the top of a hill and noticed, from afar, that they were building, what seemed to be, a huge house... at least from were I stood. As far as my knowledge was back then, when they built houses like that, it was usually the rich folks from the city comming to settle into the rural areas. I wonder to who did that house belong to. I went back to my small cottage were grandma was waiting for me with a peanut-butter and jelly sandwhich. I sat on the table and ate my snack quickly.
-"Hey gwandma..."- I said with my cheecks covered in crums and my mouth filled with food. My grandma gave me a disapointed look so I swallowed hard before I spat the rest of my food out. -"They're building a gigantastic castle near the edge of town."- I stretched my arms and legs widely to show her how big the house was.
-"It seems like a small house, the way you show me."- She chuckled. I shot my smile at her and giggled.
I loved Grandma. I still do.

As I finished eating, I decided I wanted to go and explore the inside of the house after six, which is when the workers leave. Since it's still in construction, no one will mind if I sneak to see the internal structure. I fed Jovie some of the leftovers from supper and tied my hair in a pony tail with a red hair band. I left during the evening. The sun was setting and I was certain it was already six but when I reached the hill, the workers were still in it. I was surprised but I decided to wait. They had to leave eventually. I sat on the hill and Jovie laid down beside me. Night fell, and the workers were still at it. I began getting tired and fell asleep in the soft and cold meadow.

I woked up in a jolt, a few hours later. I was in a soft bed -That wasn't mine- in a beautiful and elegant room. In the floors, some toys were scattered. Mostly toy cars. But, then I noticed, an arm wrapped around my waist. I turned around and noticed five little boys, each with their different characteristics yet so cute, cuddled up together in the same bed as me. Their faces called my attention. Still today I remember them perfectly.

They each had they're arms wrapped around the next one like a teddy bear. I was freaked out at this. It was this late. I don't know were I am. I don't know were Jovie went. I don't know who these people are, and worst... I don't know if grandma's okay. I had to get out of there quickly. I needed to go home and tell grandma I was fine.

I slowly pushed the hand off of me and slipped out of the bed. I scurried across the room but accidentally stumbled on a toy. I hunched my shoulders and looked back. The first one -the one who had his arm around me- moved but did not wake up. I sighed in relief and walked out of the room into the lit corridor. I looked back and saw no one but when I turned around, I bumbed into a pair of tall legs and fell on my butt. I looked up and saw an old man in a suit.
-"Oh... lady Blue, you are awake."- The kind man said with a smile. I did not know how to respond.
I was told not to talk to strangers. -"Don't be afraid, lady Blue. We found you sleeping at the top of a hill. You would've catched a cold if we hadn't brought you here. Your dog led us to your small cottage, afterwards, so your grandmother knows you are here in our safe hands. Is there anything you want?"- He explained. I was relieved to know my grandma's okay but what about my dog? Did Jovie actually let these strangers take me away and led them into our humble home? Well, I must admit, Jovie had a good intuition. He could see the good in people and this man was definitely kind.
-"I want to know were Jovie is?"- I said seriously as I got up.
-"Jovie? Oh you mean your dog. Yes, we bathed him, gaved his hair a trim and fed him a canine cuisine."- He said masterfully. -"He should be sleeping it off right now in the dog house."- I shoved past him and tried to make my way to the back of the house, hoping to find the backyard. I opened a clear slide door into the pitch black sky and called out for Jovie. I heard a distant bark and a jingle come closer. It was Jovie with a bell and a collar around his neck. I petted him and hugged him. -"Let's go home, Jojo."- I whispered. I stood up and behind me was the boy who had his arm around me earlier. I was surprised. He just suddenly appeared behind me. He was much more taller then me, to my surprise, so I guessed he must be older. With a sleepy face, he stretched out his fist as if giving me something and released his grip, letting my red hair band fall to the floor. -"Don't forget your hair band... girl."- He said coldly as if kicking me out. I didn't notice my hair was down.

Though back then I found that rude, when I think about it now, maybe he was just grumpy because he was tired and I did disturb his sleep. Who knows? I grabbed my hair band and left the house with Jovie without thinking twice.

When I got to the hill and looked back at my trail, I noticed I was in the new house they were building. No wonder the workers took long in leaving: they were finishing it.

The day after that, the kind old man came to my cottage and brought me my sneackers which I had left by accident. He came along with that tall boy.
"Hello, lady Blue.- He smiled.- We brought you your shoes." From behind the man, he stood, the tall, dark haired boy. The man turned to fallow my gaze. -"Oh, he just wanted to come along, that's all."

When Jovie saw the boy, he jumped at him and started barking happily. His tail wagged quickly. The boy flinched but then smiled.
"Hey boy!" He said as he petted Jovie. I looked at Jovie strangely. He liked this boy too. Jovie ran off to the fields and I went after him and so did the boy. I was feeling jealous but I found myself giggling and playing with both Jovie and the boy. That was a happy day.

My name is Kyra Blue, and I was five.
