"Why am I here, mom?" I looked around. The big old hospital stood there, looking like a prison. Then, right behind it, barely in sight, was an old house. It looked like it was going to fall over any second. Moss hung from the roof, ivy clung to the walls and flies swarmed around the ground where little hills could be seen.
"You're..you're sick, sweety." my mom was crying again. I knew I was sick. But then, I was always sick. My dad was on my right, and he hadn't looked at me the whole ride here. Now we were walking, and he was still not looking at me.
We reached the enterance and I tried to read the sign, but they husseled me inside. There were sick people everywhere. People in wheelchairs, some coughing up blood, others just looked dead. We stepped up to the front counter, where a big lady was waiting. She didn't seem nice...at all.
"May I help you?" she had a sweet voice, which didn't match her expression at all.
"Yes. This is Catherine. Catherine Lee." my dads voice shook a little.
"Oh. I see. Well then, please fill out these forms, and the Mrs. can take the little girl around the hospital." the lady showed a little bit of pity, but other then that, she didn't seem to care.
"Come on then, Cathy. Let's go." my mom was holding back tears, and I wanted to know why. But I just walked with her.
The hospital looked like a prison from the outside, and it looked like a torture chamber on the inside. There was barely any lighting, which made the whole "sick person place" thing seem like a funeral, instead of a place for them to get better. I wanted to leave, until we came to the only nice place. It was a garden. It was beautiful, with its high trees, and many flowers. It was empty, but we could go in if we wanted to, and I wanted to. So, I towed my mom along, and we sat on a tree stump all the way across the garden, and we just watched the beauty. We sat a while, maybe 15 minutes, when I saw a creepy old guy. He had long silver hair, a wrinkled face and yellow, crooked teeth. His eyes were blue, but they were mean, a smile that yelled ***** and a very small nose.
He looked at us a second, then left.
"Mom.. I don't like that guy." I could barely hear myself, and had to wonder if she did.
"I know what you mean, but don't judge." she sounded like she was crying, and looking at her, I saw she was.
"Mom?! Why are you crying? What's wrong?!" I was scared. What was going on?!
"N..nothing. Just sad is all. You know a mother never likes her children sick." she didn't sound convincing at all. She sounded more like I was being sentenced to death.
"Okay, if you say so mom." That was the last time I saw her for 6 months.
I hated this place. It was always so dark. My room felt haunted, and it was always cold. Everything was gray, even the patients. I hated this place, it made me get sicker and sicker every day.
Finally, I saw my parents again. And just that, made me feel better. They even brought all my friends. I was finally feeling better, and walking didn't even hurt.
We ate together in the cafeteria. We played together in the halls and they didn't even bring me any homework! I was happy, I was excited! I took them all to the garden, well more like raced them. And there, we caught up.
Looking at the trees, I heard my dad coming up behind me.
"So how are you liking this place, Cathy?"
"I'm not. I hate it here. Why am I here anyway, dad?"
"Well... How should I put this... You..you're going to die, Cathy." It felt like I was being crushed by a piano. I didn't stay to hear the rest. I ran. I ran out of the garden, I ran down the halls, down, down stairs. I ran till I got to the floor of the creepy janitor. There, I froze. I didn't want to be there. So, I ran back up, and tried to leave through the front enterance. But I was stopped. They would't let me through. I was a danger to the people outside. What the hell did I have?! No one told me, and I didn't really want to know.
I ran back down, remembering the exit sign on the janitors floor. I was crying, I was in pain. I reached my destination, and went to open the doors, but I heard him.
"Stupid dying kids...leaving nothing for me... needs me a live one, thats what me need." I opened the door, and quickly slipped through, making sure the door didn't slam shut. There was another door, and I opened that one too. But then I heard the old man, and I was frozen with fear.
"Gots me a live one! Live one! Lovely blonde girl, thats what me gots!"
I ran, and saw the run down house. The hills, the flies. And something you couldn't see, unless you came this way: the human bones. On the walls, in the ground, inside the house. They stuck out of the ground, and stared at me from the walls.
The old man had followed me, and was now cackling.
"Gots me a live one today, that's what I gots!" I wanted to be back with my family. Back in my scary gray room, or my light blue room back home.
He grabbed me, and dragged me to the house. I wanted to scream, but I couldn't. My voice was frozen with fear. I only saw the ax come down on my neck, then I saw through the eyes of the dead as he raped my dead body.
I went outside, and saw the ghosts of other children. Some were pitch black, and knew they were lost, and didn't know what had happened. Then there were others, who were missing body parts. Some, like me, were missing their heads, and were holding it in their hands.
