• I’d always read about how princesses woke up from a long, unexpected sleep, everything was quiet, the people were calm, and the person waking up, was always graceful.
Ugh screw those author people; there should be some law against them feeding us such lies. When I woke up, I felt like crap.
“Jillilillia, Lilly, Lill’, FLOWER BUD! Please, wake up!” Will’s frantic pleas reached into the dark abyss I had been sucked into and pulled me out.
“Wazza Fruzza?” I mumbled, pulling my heavy eyelids open.
“Good god, you’re alive,” exclaimed Dakota, letting out a gasp of relief.
“All I did was black out, why wouldn’t I be okay?” I asked, sitting up and looking at them questioningly. Will and Dakota looked at each other nervously.
“The Frustums, the name I mentioned, they are a clan of evil otherworlders, like I said earlier. They um well….” Dakota stuttered
“The binding spell they put on you was meant to kill you if it was cut!” Will blurted. Dakota looked at me; worry overshadowed the usual caring that showed in his eyes. “They thought they would either make it to you before the other Lilac, Will, came to help you, or you would die when the Lilac cut the spell.”
"Lilacs...."I thought. I flashed back to all that had happened ever since that word was said. I'd been attacked, thrown into another world, and maybe betrayed. Ugh, why did I have to be a Lilac? SO I could see things others couldn't. OOO BIG DEAL. Why did I have to suffer through this?!
“Hardcore.” I grumbled, not believing how close death had come to me.
“What we don’t understand is why you didn’t die.” Dakota pondered
    “Gee, thanks.”
    “WHAT?”
“I start seeing things, get attacked by a demon, get thrown into another world, talk to a half evil demon that can control air, get told that my friendship with you is a lie, get thrown back here, get tied to a wall, and I black out. But do you ask if I’m okay? NO! All you wonder is why I didn’t die! I should think that you wanted me to!” I stood up quickly. The room spun, but I caught myself. I shook my head and found the door. I started toward it. But someone threw themselves at me, and I was knocked to the floor.
“You’re not going anywhere.” Dakota hissed, with acid in his voice that I had never heard before. I looked up at him. His eyes were pitch-black, his skin had a midnight blue tint to it, and the teeth that he barred at me were sharp and deadly looking.
“Oh my god.” I whispered. Suddenly, his weight was thrown off of me.
“Stay away from her.” Will threatened
“Oh and what are you going to do about it?” Dakota snarled
“I’m going to make a phone call.” Will grinned. Dakota backed away from us and stared at Will curiously. It was so quiet that all we could hear was the ringing of my brother’s phone.
“Hullo?” someone from the other side of the line answered
“Hey, yea Gavin, it’s Will. You know that kid Lill’ is friends with, Dakota?”
    “That filthy guardian?” Gavin asked
“That’s the one. He’s revealed his true colors, and he won’t leave, can you and your boys, help us out?”
“Pleasure, that dirty blood is a disgrace to us all.”
“How quickly can you get here?”
“Already here.” A voice called from the hallway. Then Gavin and a bunch of my brother’s other senior friends slid into my room.
    “Dirty blood?” I asked Gavin
“Half demon.” He snarled, glaring at Dakota. Then, Troy’s older brother, who had a curious white hair style looked over at me.
“You guys need to get out of here.”
    “Then what?”
“Don’t you and my little brother have a date or something?”
    “No?”
He borrowed a phone and started typing at the keyboard furiously.
“Now you do.” He looked up at me and tossed the phone back to the other boy.
I smiled weakly and started toward the door.
    “Lilly…”
I was halfway aware of the wet, hot tears streaming down my face as I turned and looked back at Dakota. He was kneeled at the floor, his eyes flickering between green and black, and the tint of blue in his skin got deeper and lighter before my very eyes.
    “Don’t - leave.”
    Gavin kicked Dakota.
“Don’t talk to her.” He hissed dangerously. I yelped as he kicked him again.
“We can’t kill him, can we?” said one of the other boys disappointedly
“No, he has to get home, or his parents will be suspicious.” Gavin turned to us,
“You won’t want to see this, so please leave.” Troy’s older brother popped his knuckles. One of the boys raised his fist to Dakota.
“NO!” I shouted, throwing my body against his, sending us both sprawling to the floor.
“What the hell?” he gasped, throwing me off of him.
    “DON’T TOUCH HIM!” I screamed
    “Lilly….”
I looked at Dakota, he was clutching at his throat.
“I tried to kill you, I want to kill you, and the demon part of me wants to hurt you. But yet you protect me, why?”
“I don’t know.” I admitted, biting my lip
    “Jill, move away from him.”
“YOU move away.” I hissed, pulling the Lillacian blade out of my pocket and snapping it open.
“Oh ho, ho, so your little sis’ is a Lilac too? You’ve been holding out on us, Will.”
“I just found out today.” Will groaned
“Well get her away from that thing so we can teach it a lesson.”
    Will looked at me
    “Lill….”
“I’ve made up my mind. I’m not moving. You can’t make me.”
Troy’s older brother walked over and kneeled beside me at my spot next to Dakota.
“I’ll make sure he doesn’t try to hurt you while you’re by him.”
At first, I was insulted, but then I realized he meant no offence to me or Dakota, he knew that he wasn’t himself.
    “Thank you.” I whispered
    “No problem.”
“This is mutiny Colby, pure munity.” Gavin hissed
    “Bite me” Colby muttered
“Don’t tempt me.” Dakota laughed evilly
I took a deep breath and reminded myself that he didn’t mean it.
“What can I do to help him?” I asked Colby
“You can remind him about things you did when he was human. Sounds like movie fiction s**t, but it actually works.” Colby laughed
I propped Dakota’s head in my lap, his muscles tensed, I bit my lip. Colby laid a worried hand on my shoulder. I opened my clenched fist and slowly stroked Dakota’s red hair out of his face. He relaxed slightly and closed his eyes.
“Talk to him.” Colby whispered. I went blank.
    “Uh-.”
“Anything, something as simple as just walking to school together.”
“Remember the movie we watched earlier tonight, Dakota? I put my head on your shoulder and fell asleep. Then when I woke up, I threw a pillow at you, and when I failed to hit you, you hit yourself, just to make me feel better.” I smiled, “I’ve been so cruel to you since I spoke to Kenton, I shouldn’t have listened to anything he said. I should’ve known better. I’m sorry Dakota; this is all my fault, if I would’ve believed you, none of this would’ve happened. I’m so, so, so, so sorry,” I sobbed, pressing, my hand over my eyes to try to stop the tears. Dakota reached up and removed my hand from my face.
“None of this is your fault, its all mine.” He sat up and hugged me. All the tears came out. Luckily, they flowed silently, and the sobs stayed suppressed in my throat.
“Ugh, how touching, let’s go boys, you too Will,” Gavin ordered, he looked over at me and Dakota “We’ll be watching you.” He growled, slinking out the door. Will shot me a look the pleaded for me to understand as he followed them, leaving me, Colby, and Dakota all alone…
Or so we thought, we had no idea the danger we were in, and that we had just sent our only protection out the door.
