• 4. Talk

Caleb woke up with a shock. Another bad dream. He had been having those dreams since he fell in the river. All dreams were bad ones. Every night, every time he fell asleep.
He sat up and looked at his arms. Same as always. Terrible burns al the way to his neck. He got up and saw breakfast and ate it. He looked at Chad. Same as always, but he had gotten used to it.
Roxy was sleeping on the floor, and Annie was out side watching Moe and Kaz. The monster was playing darts with the barbs on its sword. Moe was waiting for Kaz. Chad was waiting to talk to Caleb. And Caleb was eating breakfast.
Caleb finished his breakfast and Chad said, “Come to the couch I need to talk to you.
They walked over to the facing rite toward the TV. “Okay first let me get something over with,” Chad said as he reached in his pocket.
“Sure what is…” Caleb stopped talking as his jaw dropped and refused to move. Chad flipped out the long scratch card reveling 100 bananas. Caleb’s face lifted up his jaw to show a smile. “Oh my goodness!” he screamed. “You one half a mill- million!”
“Yes,” said Chad. “I’m not turning it in yet though because I can’t just live my life like I would with that. It’s going to run out sooner or later. What I mainly wanted to talk to you about is the topic I decided for my book. I thought it would be good if I narrowed it down for ideas. And I'm not going to change my mind because you know how I stick to stuff. I’m not one to change my mind.”
Caleb was smiling. “Two pieces of good news in one day! Chad I think that’s your record. So anyway, what topic is it?”
    “Horror.” Chad said.
“WHAT! You come on Chad. Come on why not fantasy or adventure. You have no scary experiences in your life. Chad I’m not sure if you even know what scary is.” Caleb said.
“Well I just had a gut feeling about it.” Chad said as he shrugged his shoulders. Mean while on the other side of the couch Caleb had his eye brows down his head tilted in his hands and a look of discuss on his face.
There was a pause. Chad didn’t talk because he knew Caleb was thinking of something. Caleb’s face was looking down with a quite expression on his face. His head was on his fist and he looked like the statue of the thinking man.
“Ok I think I got it,” Caleb said. “But it’s going to involve a bit of sacrifice. But hey, the point is to scare you? I’m sure if it will even work.”
    “What is it?” Chad said.
“Okay, so my thought is that maybe you’ll spend some time in a haunted house. It would give you chills plus some good solitude for thinking.”
Caleb looked up with a half smile on his face and there was a moment of silence.
“Yeah, I guess that could work but we don’t really have any scary places in our town.” Chad said
“True, well do you got and ideas for a way to find one.” Caleb said.
“Well, um? Maybe ah? We could? Gosh I don’t know.”
“Here let me put those words in a good order. I think I have a plan. Well maybe we could put up flyers on phone post or stores but gosh I don’t know if it will work.” Caleb said.
“Nice job on putting my words together. But the chances of that working are low, maybe will get lucky this time, who knows, lets take a shot.”
They got up and started walking to the computer room.” You know Chad this isn’t going to work,” Caleb said.
“Well we got lucky with the cat didn’t we?” Chad said.
“Yes, but luck doesn’t run twice Chad,” Caleb said.
They got to computer room were they found Roxy sleeping on the shelves above they computer. And below that was Annie taking a quick cat nap below. They found the computer screen saver on and the moved the mouse.
When the screen popped up they saw Chad’s Gaia profile. Chad had had his file since Gaia had came out and his friend gage showed him, who was know as gnmg. They were both probably the most popular people on there. Chad had over 10,000 friends that he had received personally and was in touch with all of them. He had almost an unlimited gold because he would always give his friends his phone number. He also had many interpretations of his avatar. He was known by every one on Gaia as slumdog21. If he ever released his true identity he would be well famous. He had been making journal entries every day and had made short stories in arena with were his down fall. This earned him much unpopularity for being the worst writer. He estimated that each slight idea was less than one page long. Chad had potential but had no good idea’s left. He made his last story seven years ago. By then he was dry on ideas. He had sent every story to every one of his friends.
“Ouch!” Caleb said with clenched teeth. He looked at the screen to see several stories all rated about 40,000 times. There were five stars under the story name. And four of those stars were completely unfilled. The first star was the only one full. That was the lowest ranking.
“Wow,” Caleb said. “Over 20,000 people hate it.”
Caleb grabbed the mouse and went to his profile. “Haven’t checked this in a while have I,” he then scrolled down the profile to see many interpretations of his avi in many styles at many parts of his Gaia life. Then he scrolled down more and the page was endless montages of pictures. Then at the bottom he saw how much gold was earned. Note that Chad had never spent a penny on Gaia cash and had never hacked anyone’s account. The number he had now was 5,000,000. And the money he had earned total was 40,000,000. Chad was well liked and received many gifts to it turned out, plus he was a pin-ball wizard.
Caleb’s jaw was not completely dropped but it was dropped. The glow of the computer in the half lit room lit his face with blue computer lit. He slowly moved the mouse to the red x in the top right and clicked it.
“Okay now let’s get down to business,” Caleb said as his face regained sanity. The clicked Microsoft publisher and made a quick little flier.

“Think you have a scary house? The call this number! 555-907 to get a gold opportunity!”
