• I heard a crash a yard away and looked that way and saw Rosona staring at me her eyes wide and mouth hanging open. People stopped to stare. I stared back at her surprised, she should be in her 40 by now, not looking the way she did when I left her besides the tears.
"Elizabeth?" Jane asked quietly by my side I could tell she was watching me.
Rosona slowly started to walk toward me I just stared at her dumbstruck.
"Kate? Is it really you?" She asked in a whisper. I looked away not knowing what to say. "You should be in your....40's by now. Why do you look like....the same you?" She whispered love and pain filled her voice. I looked up and saw that it was also filling up in her eyes.
"Rosona...."I trailed off and looked at Jane who was watching me. Her dark brown hair was pulled away from her face like every other day. She knew who Rosona was and she quickly looked away as she remembered. I looked back at Rosona who was watching me.
"What are you?" She asked with only pain in her voice.
I opened my mouth to answer her when I felt Jack's presence along with Cassidy's. They walked through the crowd and stopped in their tracks as they saw me. My throat tightened up and I couldn't speak. So I moved my hair away from the left side of my neck and tilted it so she could see the puncture wounds. She gasped and put a hand to her mouth.
"You're a vampire," Rosona spoke the words as if they were new to her.
"If your a vampire then why did you leave? Why didnt you just tell her?" Cassidy asked calmly and stood next to Rosona. She was the one to always ask the questions no one else had the guts to ask.
"Because, I was a danger to her at the time." When Rosona shook her head and opened her mouth I added, "I was changed the night I left your house when I met your sister and Jack. I was beaten nearly to death and they changed me before I died. When I didn't answer your calls it was because I was in the cemetary hiding from the light. The hunger was strong and I ended up killing a cow in the west side of town." I looked away from her remembering the night. The pain it caused to breath and the knife going into my arm. When I tried to crawl away they would kick my in the side which knocked the air out of me. The taste of my blood in my mouth and the sting in my eyes from my blood.
"I could've helped you through it." Rosona whispered and brushed her hand along mine.
I quickly took a step back not knowing what for. Rosona looked hurt as I did it but she didn't say anything. Tears filled my eyes as I looked away from her.
"Rosona...i'm sorry." My voice cracked on the last part.
"Kate." Jack said quietly. Then shook his head. "I thought you would be ready by now.....i'm so sorry." I looked away from them and down to the ground.
