Once in a small village in China there lived a young girl named Soo. Soo lived with her father but she rarely saw him. He worked as a farmer in the rice fields from dawn to dusk. Her father would not get home until late in the evening, after Soo had already fallen asleep. Her father wasn’t a very pleasant man so he was avoided by most of the villagers. The same goes for Soo. In the village there where rumors that said that after Soo was born her mother disappeared. It was also said that her father and mother weren’t acquainted with each other to begin with. She did not believe the rumors to be true but the other villagers did. So Soo became an outcast among the society of the village.

One day Soo could tolerate it no longer. She was in her house when all of a sudden she heard some people outside talking about the rumors and how different she is. Soo ran outside to confront them. As she stopped in front of the villagers they became louder and more talkative, like they wanted her to know how much they hated her. Then she snapped. “ you think its funny. How would you like it if everyone outcastes you and treated you like dirt. People like you are all the same you cut down others that are different from you just so you can feel better about yourselves,” she yells. After the quarrel she ran into the forest crying.

Soo ran until she can not recognize the paths or the forest itself. Then in between two very large trees she falls to the ground. Tears falling from her eyes she looks around. In front of her was a third tree, but this tree seemed different some how. She crawled over to the base of its trunk and lied agents it. “ it’s not fair.. Why must I suffer for this, why must I be so different from the others,” she says out loud. Soo closes her eyes and passes out. The next thing she hears is a voice of a young man. “awaken” it said. She wakes up and rushes to her feet. Looking around she whispers to herself “I wonder what that was.” “It was me.” the voice came from behind her. She quickly turns around to see a man with blackish blue hair and deep red eyes standing on one of the branches in the tree. He appeared to be in his late teens or early twenties. “Who are you” she asked. Jumping out of the tree to the ground in front of her he said “my name is ling” he cocked his head to the side and said. “Who might you be.” Blushing she looks down at her feet “ my name is Soo.” then all of a sudden he looks at her with concerned face. “What are you doing here so deep inside this forest. It will be quite difficult for you to get back to your village on your own.” She tightly clenches her fists “I’m not going back to the village.” “Why is that” he asks. “Because I’m sick of those people treating me like I’m a monster.” tears fall from her eyes as she speaks. He smiles as he places his hand on her cheek picking her head up to se her face. “You should not let something like that get to you. It’s true that being different from everyone is far more difficult then being similar to everybody but…” he pauses for a moment. “I believe that your difference is what makes you so breathtakingly beautiful.” He held his hand out for her. “ let me show you the way back to your village. I’m sure you don’t want to miss Moon Month.” “Okay” she replied.

As they were walking back to the village Soo couldn’t stop looking at Ling. “Is there something bothering you?” he asked. “I was wondering why you were deep inside the forest.” she retorted. He smiles at her. “Well I suppose you have right to know. I’m a dragon spirit and the guardian of those tree trees,” she looks at him confusedly. “You’re a dragon spirit?” he stops in front of her. His smile becomes more wicked. “Are you afraid of me now?” She smiles at him and continues on walking. “No, not at all” she replied. When they reach the village the sun had already fallen and the villagers were celebrating moon month. She turns to him and says “thank you very much for bringing me back here.” “ you’re very much welcome. But I must be leaving now” he replied. Her eyes swelled up with tears. “you’re going?!” he grabs her hand. “Don’t cry. Listen to me, from this day forward I’ll come and visit you every moon month and if you ever get lost in the forest again I’ll be sure to assist you. Do you understand” She nodes her head “okay.” “And one more thing when you become a young women, I want to make you my bride. I promise.” as he speaks toughs words he vanishes. On the hand that he was holding was left an image of a powerful dragon as a symbol of the promise he made, and he kept that promise. They became friends and soon after they fell in love. And so ,Soo, who was once extremely lonely, was now the wife of ,Ling, a dragon spirit.
