• CHAPTER 143 - CONSOLANCE

Now you're the biggest cause of his suffering. Just the mere scent of you drove him crazy and now you're not allowed to see him. How could you cope with hearing such news?

While the guilt of Kira's suffering was eating away at me once more, Kai was trying to console me. I felt as though nothing would cheer me up at that rate. Kai continuously told me it wasn't my fault and that Kira was merely weak. I knew it wasn't my fault, but I felt guilty because there was nothing I could do about it. I couldn't change the scent of my blood. Even though I had dressed in Kai and Orihime's clothing that morning, Kira still went mad by the small dosage of my scent.

With that buzzing through my head, I groaned softly as the feather-like touch of Kai's lips against my jugular vein. He was nearly sandwiching me onto the bed with no shirt on--he gave it to me to wear as pajamas--over my lingerie--since we couldn't stop back for clothing. He had brushed my hair away and was kissing my neck for a while. I would close my eyes occasionally and pay attention to the feeling of Kai's chest moving against my back from breathing steadily.

Kai cupped one hand over mine and his skin was almost glowing in the light that seeped through the curtains of the hotel window. I wouldn't say we were "fooling around" but merely having a moment. Not as severe as our last date but not so innocent either. Kai's hand traced the silhouette of my waist down to my thigh and I shivered. He turned me over onto my back and locked my legs around his hips. I was in awe at the image of his bare torso and his passionate brown eyes. He brushed some of my bangs around and kissed my forehead.

"Let me know when you feel discomfort," he whispered to me.

We wrapped our arms around each other and we both sighed simultaneously. Shortly thereafter, Kai started to kiss my neck down to my shoulder daintily. My eyes fluttered shut and I buried my face in the hollow of Kai's neck. He gradually started rocking his hips against mine; "bumping zippers" as some would call it. I didn't understand how I was able to get so intimate with Kai, but never have the courage to take it all the way.

I entered into a very light sleep and already noticed I was drifting off into a dream. I was surprised, though, because I was still conscious enough to know what Kai was doing and conscious enough to still move a little. My mind was a canvas of white for a moment before dimming down to black. As the image started lighting up again, I noticed a familiar room; Kira's bedroom. I couldn't see myself; I must have been the one looking around.

I glanced around at the quiet, peaceful room. I was startled to see Kira still in his near-unconscious state of being under the covers. I ended up taking one step forward and Kira shot upwards. He squinted his eyes open a little and they were a piercing red but not pointed towards me. He felt the tube that had been taped to his cheek and he abruptly pulled it off. He started pulling the tube out of his throat--the tube went for a couple of feet before it was out, spilling blood out with it. I could feel myself gagging as Kira climbed off of the bed and stood before me. He bore his talons and fangs before growling angrily and blood seeped from the corner of his mouth. I could feel myself walking backwards before bumping into his bedroom door. I had one last look at Kira's killer face before it all went black.

Once I came back into consciousness, I flinched and Kai immediately pulled away from my neck and stared at me. I held my hand over my mouth in shock and upcoming nausea, "Bathroom..."

Kai stared at me for a moment before he comprehended and climbed off of me. He helped me off of the bed and guided me to the bathroom, unable to pick me up quickly. As soon as we reached the bathroom, I dropped onto my knees in front of the toilet and vomited only a little bit. The images in my head weren't as gory, but still disturbing. I hated having such a sensitive stomach.

"What did you see?" Kai asked me, brushing my head back.

"Kira..." I groaned. "I saw Kira..."

Kai cupped one side of my face with his large hand and I glanced up at him, "Perhaps it's time you sleep,"

After flushing the toilet, I wobbled over to the sink and started rinsing out my mouth. Unfortunately, we weren't able to run back to get toothbrushes and the hotel didn't provide any, so I just had to stick with rinsing my mouth for a half hour. Once the horrid taste was gone, I used Kai as support to get my tired and weak body into the bed. Once I was lying on the bed, Kai leaned over and pressed a firm kiss against my forehead.

"Don't think about Kira," he whispered. "The only person you need to think about is yourself."

I was about to protest against that, but perhaps Kai was right; I couldn't only think about those who were suffering. If I wanted to get better, I needed to focus on myself. Against my will, Kai kissed my lips and I ended up pushing him back.

"Don't kiss me," I blushed, covering my mouth. "I couldn't brush my teeth."

Kai frowned at me, "So sensitive,"

"So perverted," I snapped at him. "You've been all over me tonight."

"I believe..." Kai started, tracing over my lips with his finger, "that, despite how much you blush, and how prudent you are, there is, indeed, a naughty side to you."

My face immediately turned red, "I-I-I-you can't prove that..."

"Oh, can't I?" he almost whispered, kissing my forehead and chuckling. "I love you."

"I love you too," I always felt, ever since I fell in love with Kai, that just saying "you too" wasn't enough. I wrapped my arms around his neck and gave him a very light peck on the lips. Even though Kai had been going a little past my boundaries, the butterflies still tingled in my stomach.

    ~*~*~*~*~*~

Rolling over and bumping my arm into somebody next to me, I opened my eyes to see Kai sound asleep next to me. He must have been in a very deep sleep; he didn't even flinch when I accidentally touched him. I smiled faintly and climbed out of the bed, tucking in Kai as I did so. I made my way to the window and closed the curtains to keep the sun from irritating him. I was happy he was finally going back into his normal sleep schedule.

I beamed at Kai after thinking about what he said to me last night, "Prudent..." I grumbled to myself. I couldn't believe Kai actually wanted to prove I had a "naughty" side.

I heard a slight vibration again and I glanced over at Kai to see his phone lit up on the end table. I quickly snatched it before it could wake Kai. Once I saw it was Matsuda calling, I limped away from the bed towards the bathroom and answered the phone. I held it up to my ear warily, afraid bad news would be awaiting.

"Hello?" I whispered into the phone.

    "Arisa?" Matsuda responded. "Where's Kai?"

"He's asleep," I answered. "He hasn't slept in a long time; I didn't want him to be disturbed."

"I see," he mumbled. "Could you tell him to calle me when he wakes up?"

A sob broke out of my chest, "If Kira's dead, you can tell me!" I cried. "I'm sorry!"

    "Arisa--"

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry..." I cried, curling up. "I-I wish he wasn't so sensitive!"

"Arisa, honey, he's not dead," Matsuda tried to calm me. "He's not dead."

Before I could answer, the phone was taken from my hand and no other than Kai sat next to me. He held the phone up to his ear and wrapped his other arm around my shoulders and held me close to him. I leaned his head on his shoulder and breathed deeply, overwhelmed by my sudden mood swing. Kai's chest was cold, but I could still manage to find comfort in it.

"Okay," Kai mumbled and hung up.

"What is it? What's wrong?" I looked up at Kai.

"Matsuda advises us to return Ai to her father," Kai sighed. "Today."

    "Why today?"

"She can't tolerate Kira's suffering," he sighed.

"But...she won't be able to see him again,"

"It's better to do that rather than allow her to witness him die," Kai told me almost ominously.

We both sat together on the floor for a moment before I spoke up again, "Should we get going?"

    "You're not coming,"

I shook my head, "Of course I am; I want to see Ai again. Besides, they can't kill me. Can't Hisao stop them?"

Kai looked away for a moment before looking down at me again, "Fine. Stay here; I'll gather some clothes and bring Ai."

I smiled halfheartedly, "I trust you won't let them hurt me,"

Kai cupped my face in his large hands, "I won't allow injury to my precious Arisa,"

I blushed a little at that as Kai leaned in to peck me on the lips. I moved my head to the side, "Don't; I have morning breath."

"Everything is an excuse," Kai rolled his eyes.

"I'm self-conscious," I hissed. "Get my toothbrush when you come back."

There was a pause before Kai landed a rough kiss on me, causing me to bump my head against the wall. I'd have pushed him off, but I really had no will to fight when he would kiss me. It was like a whole other world with him, especially when--his hand was creeping up my chest!

I pinched Kai's hand and he pulled his lips off of mine while chuckling, "Get your hand off, Kai!"

"I'm sorry," he laughed, kissed my forehead, and stood up. "I'll get going."

Kai assisted me in standing and removed his shirt that I was wearing, exposing my lingerie. I limped over to my dirty clothes quickly and redressed myself. I didn't have much of a problem that we were so intimate at the moment; I was just self-conscious around him. I walked over to him, wrapped my arms around his torso, and kissed him softly.

"Come back soon," I smiled. "And don't forget the toothbrush; I won't kiss you again if I don't have it."

Kai sighed and kissed the crown of my head, "Fine. I'll be back. Don't answer the door for anybody."

I nodded and we released each other. I opened the door for Kai and he smiled at me before leaving the hotel room. Shutting the door slowly, I could hear subtle rumbles of thunder outside and the wind was gradually picking up. Perfect weather to match the mood; depressing and ominous.
