• Have you ever woken up in darkness? I’m not talking about the tenebrosity caused by night-time, when all the lights are out, but instead the pitch black, unrelenting gloom. The kind that makes every hair of your body stand on edge and primal instincts activate. In times of great stress our bodies prepare themselves for a fight. Our muscles seize and we are known to possess more strength than we have thought possible. It is more than like that you have not infact experienced this, but I have. It’s what happens when you’re investigating the murder of a highly loved politician.

My name is Jack Shaw. I work for the NYPD but more specifically, the homicide department. I’m a detective and a damned good one at that. Most cases the department’s had to deal with has my name on it somehow or another. Not that I’m boasting, far from it. With the things I’ve seen I’m glad I’m just a nobody to everyone outside my precinct.
After a long day’s work, I came home to my skyline apartment. No sooner had I opened the door than I was pounced upon by my canine catastrophe - Zeus. Zeus is a 2 year old German Shepherd and is 84lb of pure muscle. I adopted him from the precinct after they decided he wasn’t cut out for police work. Zeus tackled me to the ground.
“Easy boy! Zeus, come on! Down!” I yelled to no effect. Zeus had decided to greet me the way he always does - with extra slobber. After about five minutes of play fighting with him, he eventually calmed down and allowed me through into the main room of open plan
