• “What happened?” Pappy says.
He was walking, around town, looking for Night by using the necklace. It would pulse a glowing light when it gets closer to its owner. Pappy thought he was finally getting somewhere because when he entered the ally, the pulse beat faster.
It was a good two hours walking deep into the ally. The atmosphere was ghostly and dark. Rats would scurry across the floor and trash cans would fall over by stray cats looking for food. The necklace beat so fast that it was just a single glow. Night was close, real close, and he was in the building right in front of him.
Right when pappy opened the door, the necklace’s glow completely went out like a candlelight. Darkness surrounded him, leaving him in the position he’s in right now.
“The necklace…what went wrong?” Pappy continues questioning himself as he walked into the large abandoned building.
Little light seeped through the barred windows. The ceiling was crumbled; you could see chunks of it on the floor. Spider webs had infested the building, along with dust and bugs.
Pappy gulped, sensing something ominous. He walked on ahead, the necklace held closely to his chest as if it would protect him.
“Night…?” he looks around, but doesn’t see anyone. “Night?” he calls again.
A piece of the ceiling crumbled up ahead. That’s when he noticed the stairs. He climb up them, one step after another. It was a spiral stairs that lead all the way to the highest floor. Every ten minutes Pappy would reach a new floor.
Once he got on the tenth floor, the very last one, he gasped. There was great destruction in the room. The walls would have indents in them and holes. It looked like someone decided to grab a hammer and destroy the walls.
He walked away from the stairs to get a good look at the madness. Stored boxes covered the floor in a mess. Some of the tools escaped and scattered across the area. And then he saw it. Right in front of his feet was splattered blood. He knelt down and swiped his finger across it. Fresh. But whose blood is it?
“Night” Pappy answers out loud. Or was it someone else’s blood? Did Night get into a fight?
Pappy starts walking along the blood trail. It lead him to a door that opened to another room. It was pitch black, but what hit him the most was the stench. It reeked of rotten flesh. He covered his nose and entered.
“Night, are you in here?” Pappy calls out.
The floor got stickier. His shoes were getting stuck on the floor but he still trudged on.
    “Night…”
Just then, the necklace in his hand pulse. The light was very weak and the pulse came very slow. But, like before, it would beat faster when it got closer to its owner. Night is here, he must be.
Pappy got so determined that he increased his speed, but it wasn’t very wise because he slipped on the wet floor and fell. But it wasn’t the hard floor he fell on. It was a person. The light from the necklace illuminated the persons feature. Pappy screamed and got off quickly, his heart thudding. The person was dead, its skin peeled right off its body. What was worse was that Pappy knew who it was.
“Oh, Besayed…what happened to you? …The life potion…you drank it, didn’t…you…” Pappy bowed his head and did a silent prayer. When he looked up, he noticed the second body beside Besayed. It was Night. Pappy hurried to him.
“Dear lad, what happened?!” he picked up Night and carried him out the room. There was a hammock next to one of the windows so he went there and set Night down in it.
There was no life in him. Night’s skin was pale as a ghost. He had a deep cut in his stomach that bled all over his body. What was more discouraging was that his neck had been snapped.
“You’re still alive, you must be” because the necklace still pulsed; a very dead pulse, but it means there’s still life in Night.
Pappy got on his knees and held the necklace out like an offering. He hung his head down and began chanting. It was a long and very fast, the words were spoken very quickly. This was his mission, his job. If the wielder of the great soul perished, then the only one to return the great soul would be the kedua, a secondary person that is trained for that very job. And that is what Pappy is.
As he chanted the mythical language, a golden glow emitted from Night’s chest. It spread to his whole body and brightened to a burning white. The green ball from the necklace moved towards his body but couldn’t get very close because Pappy held the chain tightly in his hands. The ball still tugged, eager to get closer.
The chanting stopped. Pappy let silence fill the room for a good minute and then said, “Bind”
Night’s glow shone bright, leaving no shadows in the room. Everything was white for a split second then darkness again. The hammock was empty and the necklace was glowing. Night’s body disappeared. Pappy had successfully returned the great soul.
