• “Wait… Kar can we stop? Please…. I need to tell you something…”

Kar looked up from Ezio’s crotch pouting. “Come on baby… We were just getting to the best part. Can’t it wait?”

    “No… Please Karston…”

He knew it was serious when Ezio used his full name. He never called him Karston. Sitting up, Kar moved away from ezio’s body only to come lay down directly beside him. “Alright baby, what’s up?”

Ezio was silent for a long time, the worried stares of his lover making it harder to try and speak. He knew this was going to change everything. Everything was going to end tonight and he knew it was his fault. He’d ruined the best thing he’d ever had in his life.

“Kar…. I ….. I….” His words failed him again as he tried to confess his transgressions.

“You what, baby? What’s wrong? You know you can tell me.”

    “Karston, I….. I…. I slept with another man…”

The words spilled from his mouth like water from a basin. He couldn’t bare to look down at his lover’s face. The pain, he knew he would find there was just too much to bear. To his amazement though, what he heard was a small laugh. Surprised, he looked down and found the warmest smile he could imagine.

“I’ve been wondering when you were going to tell me.”

Ezio was horrified. All this time, his lover had known. He’d been hurting him for so long. Why hadn’t he said anything?

    “Y… you knew…?”

Kar let his smile fade as he nodded his head against Ezio’s chest. He’d always known it would happen. They had rushed into things and been careless. Things like that never worked out.
“Yeah… It’s alright though, I’ve always know it was coming.”

“W…. what do you mean, you’ve always known…?”

“I’ve always known that I wasn’t going to be enough for you. I was more of a convenient infatuation that has finally started to die down.”

    “Kar, that’s no true! You..”

Kar quickly placed a finger over Ezio’s mouth and shook his head.

“Shhh…. Don’t try to deny it. You need someone else now, I understand.”

Ezio didn’t know what to say. Karston seemed so calm about things. It wasn’t at all what he expected. He had prepared himself for a long night of yelling and crying. He’d prepared himself for the pain he knew would come with truth. He hadn’t prepared himself for this sort of torture though.

Kar wasn’t confused or tormented, he’d known it was coming, after all. He was however hurt. Somehow he had made himself believe that maybe he was fooling himself and he would lose his other half. Slowly, he laid his head down on Ezio’s chest and smiled.

“This is my favorite part. Of our relationship, I mean. I love laying here and listening to your heart beat. It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard in my life.”

Ezio was losing it as he wrapped his arms around the man on top of him. Tears were streaming down his face and his voice cracked as he tried to tell the other how sorry he was.

    “Karston… I’m so sorry… I never wanted to hurt you…”

Carefully as he could, he pulled Ezio’s arms away and sat up. Grabbing his clothes, he pulled them on then leaned over his friend and kissed him softly.

    “I love you Ezio…”

With that, he stood up and walked out of the room and house. He didn’t bother to get his truck. He just kept walking. Walking until his feet were so sore that he could take another step. Only then did he let himself go.

Ezio sat down on the ground next to his lover. This was the first time he’d been able to see Kar since that night. He hadn’t been able to face the man, knowing how much pain he had caused him.

He was silent for a while just staring ahead of him. Then, he turned and wrapped his arms around the stone cross, breaking down. “I love you Karston,” was all he was able to get out.
