• A flash. In an instant, a memory is recorded. A memory I may one day lose. To me, taking pictures isn’t just capturing the beauty of something or just for fun. It’s preservation.

I can’t remember anything from the past decade. Last thing I remembered was graduating from high school. Next thing I remember is waking up ten years later still thinking I’m 18. The doctors said that I was in an accident and that I suffered head trauma. One doctor said that if I were ever to regain my lost memories, there’s a chance I may lose the ones I form between waking up with no memory and regaining them, but other doctors disagree. I’m not sure how much he knows about amnesia cases, but the thought of it still scares me.

Since then, I have been obsessively recording my life. I take pictures, I record conversations, I scrapbook, and I write every night in my diary. My husband of 7 years seemed very disturbed by my lack of memories of him at first, but nevertheless he’s stuck by my side and filled me in on as much as he can.

As I add another photo to the third scrapbook I’ve started since waking up, I try to remember everything that happened as vividly as I can. I write down everything in as much detail as I can.

Even if I lose these memories, something will remember for me.
