• "Can my kind change into any other mythical beasts?" Jana asked.
    "Such as?"
"Unicorns, werewolves, things like that," she said. Gihan shook his head.
"Other than dragons, I have never heard of that kind of transformation," he said. "And a changeling cannot simply turn into a werewolf by choice. They must be bitten by a werewolf to be able to turn into one. Even if one is bitten by a werewolf, they do not transform into one by choice."
"Why not?" Jana wanted to know.
"Turning into a werewolf is an involuntary transformation," Gihan said.
    "How often do they transform?"
"Once a month, during the full moon," he answered. "And then, only at night."
"I've heard that werewolves can only transform when the moon is visible," she said. "Is that true?"
"Yes, that is true," he said.
"Do you know of any other mythical beasts?" Jana inquired. Gihan nodded.
"There are fauns, dryads, centaurs, minotaurs, and many others," he said. "Unfortunately, I cannot recall the names of most of them."
"You said you've never heard of a changeling turning into a mythical beast, other than dragons," she said. "Aren't there any cases like that which were recorded?"
"None that I know of," Gihan said, shaking his head.
"Then how do you know so much about my kind?" she wondered.
"I am a seer," he said. "It is my job to know so much."
"But how did you learn about my kind?" she asked. "Surely you haven't always known?" Gihan shook his head.
"No, I have not always known," he said. "I learned about your kind from travelers."
"Travelers?" she echoed. "How would travelers know about my kind?"
"They were a select group of travelers," he answered. "They call themselves Roamers."
    "What are Roamers?"
"Roamers travel from town to town, rarely staying more than a week in one place," he replied
    "Why?" she asked.
"Roamers are born with a need to travel and learn," Gihan said. "They are basically traveling historians. Once they learn the history of a particular subject, they travel, telling what they have learned to anyone who will listen."
"What happens when no one wants to listen?" Jana asked.
"If they come to a town where no one wants to listen, they simply move on to the next town," Gihan said. "They will travel until they come to a town where someone will listen."
"How do they learn the history of a subject?"
"When they want to learn the history of something, they travel to a town that has what they are looking for, whether it is stories told to them by the town's residents or recorded in books," he answered. "Roamers are always searching for history to learn."
"Don't they ever stop traveling?" Jana asked.
"Roamers will settle down and stay in one place only when they become too old to travel anymore," he replied. "Although there have been Roamer children who did not want to continually travel from town to town. In those cases, the children were left with friends in the last town visited."
"I thought that with all the traveling they do, they wouldn't have time to make or keep friends," Jana said.
"That is only partly true, Jana," Gihan said. "In rare instances, Roamers have stayed in one town more than a week, to learn as well as tell what they have learned."
"Where did Roamers learn about my kind?" she asked.
"I believe they learned about changelings from the recorded histories in various towns," he answered. "More than one town will have recorded histories for various subjects."
    "Where are we going?"
"We are going to Cabana," he said.
    "Why there?" she asked.
"Because that is where we will find the earliest recorded history dealing with changelings," he said. "It will not necessarily be about changelings in general, but there will almost certainly be changelings involved."
