• This is a story that may be forever engraved into my mind. I at the time was just about 13, my friends Eric who is nearly 18 at the time and Andy who is maybe a little over 20 thought it would be fun to sumo wrestle each other. They decided to wrestle in the grass. Well they found it fun so they convinced Aaron to do it, but the thing is when I seem to get involved in their schemes it seems to always escalate and become much worse than what they had originally intended.
Problem is I didn’t want to do it but they were calling various names and pressuring me into it. I foresaw how this endeavor would end but I still was somehow convinced into it. We were to battle on the “circle“. The circle is a huge cement ring that is roughly 20 to 30 feet long. One half of it is made of grass, and then there is a division line and mulch on the other side. Their in the dead center is a light that radiates and illuminates the circle at night. Surrounding the circle is a cement ring that is about 6 to 7 inches tall.
This is when it finally went from just a bad idea to a terrible accident waiting to happen, Aaron who was at the time about 16, a head taller and a second black belt in Judo, was who I was going to face. As soon as the match starts he slaps me in the face a few times and then charges
I fell back, and tripped on the cement ring, hit head first onto the street. Aaron landing on top of me starts yelling some F*** my knee which was scraped and bleeding a bit. As I got up everyone was huddled around me asking if I was bleeding and if I was okay, Andy had run in to get some ice and bandages. They later told me they thought my skull had split open on the spot. Even to this day I still remember nearly all the details of that wrestling match
