• One day, my friend and I got off the bus at our lousy bus-stop and found the most amazing thing!
The stop sign at the corner of the street had fallen! She didn't care, but I did. I ran over to it, picked it up, and started to drag it back home. She sighed, knowing this was going to be another battle between me and reality.
    "No." She said.
    "Please?"
"No. Put it back, and lets go."
Then, I had a wonderful idea. "If it is still there at the end of the week, can i have it?" It was Tuesday, so the odds were against me... but I still had to try.
She sighed again. "Fine. But you can't hide it in the bushes."
    Damn!
    "THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!"

Every single day, I ran to the bus stop, praying that it would still be there.
    It was.

On Friday, I got off the bus, and *GASP*!!! there it was! I look at my friend, and once again, she sighs. But it doesn't matter. I pick up the big thing, and start walking.

    Let me tell you this:
1- Stop signs are VERY heavy
2- The sign part makes for a sail, wich causes the transportation of the darn thing to be difficult.
3- I was too proud to let my friend help me carry it.

Anyways, we finally get to my our houses (right across the street from eachother) which is about 2 streets away from the bus stop. I prop it up out on my porch and debate on how I am to get it inside. Then the worst thing that can happen, happens.
My mother pulls into the driveway.
She stops the car and gets out and says:
    "No."
    "Please?"
    "No."
Unlike my very good friend, Mom is a bit hard to persuade in these matters.
"Take it back." says she in the coldest possible tone of voice.
I hang my head in shame and walk slowly back to the bus stop to deposite the beautiful creature. Unlike before, I am now accutely aware of the judging glances cast about me by my neighbors.
My brilliant idea and fantasy of doing something awesome and not being punished or put down because of it has once again been destroyed.

    The End
