• Far into the woods a little girl cried and a little bird heard her and flew to her. “Why” the bird asked the girl “do you cry?” She wiped her nose & replied “I wish to fly as you do, but I cannot.” She continued to cry. The little bird told her, “Then you should try to fly as I do, grow wings & flap them” the bird smiled. So did the girl, “I will try little bird, thank you” she said. Later on in the day the girl got sad again & started to cry, a little mouse heard her. “Why” the mouse asked “do you cry?” She wiped her nose & replied “I wish to break the wall between me & my mother.” She continued to cry. “Then you should grow long sharp teeth as I have & break holes in the wall so you can cross.” The mouse & the girl smiled and the girl said “I will try little mouse, thank you.” Later on in the night the girl got sad again & started to cry. An old owl heard her & came, “Why” the owl asked “do you cry?” the girl wiped her nose & replied “I wish to see past the dark, as you do.” She continues to cry. “Then you should get night vision eyes, as I have” the owl & the girl smiled, and she replied “I will try old owl, thank you”. The next day the girl’s playmate Azzy came over to her friend in a pool of blood. She screamed and called 911. At the hospital, the girl said “Azzy, I want to fly, I want to be with my mother, & I want to see through the darkness I’m in. let me go Azzy, please?” Azzy began to cry, “But what about me? You’re just going to leave me?” the girl’s eyes closed but her last words were as clear as her first “Yes, I will.”
Azzy wants to fly too…I want to fly.
