• Fall is the season for walking home

and listening to the leaves crackle underfoot,

and watching them swirl behind cars as they drive by,

a whirlwind of color in the street.

Fall is for cold, crisp mornings driving to school

and hot, humid afternoons driving back.

Fall is for bonfires with friends, lying under the stars

with the lightning of distant storms,

and coming home smelling like smoke and the night air.

It’s for burnt marshmallows filling your mouth

and playing truth or dare after sundown in the park behind your house,

staying up late just because it’s Saturday.

Fall is about school starting and the weather changing and growing colder,

but not caring because, just for now, you’re happy.
