Fighting Tournament
Semifinal
By Dragonas2
Sitting in the waiting room, staring at the floor,
Waiting for my turn to come, glancing at the door.
I’d exercise but want no energy depleted,
So I wait at stare eager and seated.
The speaker just then burst with a booming sound,
“Justin Ralston, It is time. Get ready for your round.”
I’d like to pause the story for a second cause you see,
I’m not in a doctor’s office but a martial arts tourney.
I rose from my seat and went to the hall,
I knew next time I see these walls I’ll triumph or I’ll fall.
I hear some people chanting; I know just where that sound is from
I ‘m nearing the end of the hall and into the stadium.
And as I walk mere minutes out of the hall
I smile and feel a sense of pride from my family and all
My sensei giving encouragements, I feel adrenaline’s pull,
In one more minute I’ll be in the semifinal
I step forward well aware that I was feeling queasy
I knew that being so far, he cannot be easy.
As we shake hands and do our respective stance,
I stared deep in his eyes, I barely stand a chance
Family and friends, edge of seat they’re sitting
Even cousins I don’t see except Christmas or Thanksgiving.
As time slows down and tension rose, my body feeling warm
I’ll try my best above the rest with my battle form
As my body started to leap before it began to fall asleep.
I looked and I can surely tell that there is the starting bell.
I charged with a simple plan in mind of pushing pressure points
I jabbed and then I felt some air followed by a pain in my joint.
You see, as quick as an angry bee, he ducked and hits the point in my knee.
I jumped back and shook it off in the battle-worn tile
I knew in an instant that he was using my very same style
I stared at him as he charged toward his final strike
“I’m not going out this easy, not this early in the fight.”
I jumped back, tried to attack
I knew speed was the key But that blow to the knee had made it weak.
But I still fought on, charge and push, landing several blows
Trying my very best to defeat the greatest of my foes.
He was smart and tough and quick of course
Using brains instead of force.
I saw his plan come together and why he’s dodging like a feather.
I tried to run around the stage to avoid his blows
He tried to get me tired and you know how that story goes
What he didn’t count on was the fact that I’m ADHD
So as he tries to tire me I dodged awake and free.
But as I jumped as a graceful bird
If I got closer I’ll surely be hurt.
I had to wing it,slow him down, get him off his feet,
I surged forward carefully and started off my sweep,
He saw it coming and he smirked as he lifts his knee
I thought I had won as I tripped his feet,
As he tumbled forward I saw his what was to be.
I tried to dodge it, oops too late his knee had met my face.
I hit the floor with the speed of sound as he looks back in haste.
The arena around me turned to mist
I had lost consciousness.

- Wow, very nice! I am very impressed. The beginning really pulled me in. Great use of punctuation and internal rhyme in places. There were a few times where the couplet's end rhyme got a little off as well as timing, but for the most part, it was EXTREMELY easy to read! Sorry that you lost the match, but, hey, better luck next time and learn from your mistake. =3 (I used to do Tai-Kwon-Do a long time ago, so I can get a pretty clear image in my head. biggrin )
