Half covered Christmas lights
A blown over tree
This place destroys
Our Christmas glee
No family is here
But for our brothers and sisters
The sand billows in my lungs
The wind whispers
Thoughts of home
And loved ones dear
I shall see neither
Never here
Tacky decorations
From Christmas' past
How they always
Seem to last
Christmas in the sands
The deserts of Iraq
I can't wait to go home
And never come back
- Title: My Christmas
- Artist: Cyrus
- Description: Written here in the MWR of the base I am stationed in in Iraq. We've only been here a few months, but I long for home. I'm newly married, but have only spent a total of 4 weeks with my wife since the wedding, the rest has been deployment and training. The visuals in the poem I can actually see outside of my cheu. Nobody seems especially festive.
