• There are angels among us
Or say I've heard some say
    What makes a person special
To describe them in such a way?

There are some who go out of their way
To say they've done some good
Boasting and bragging about their deeds
    So another's suffering goes misunderstood

True they are a good Samaritan
Bringing small comfort and wealth to their fellow
But could they see what an earthly angel sees
And go on doing even knowing what they bestow?

A smile on the face of a small child
Who cries herself to sleep every night at home
    Keeping no happiness for themselves
So another might feel warm even when alone

Sacrifices that are made are kept behind their door
Known only to themselves so none can feel guilt
A teacher to even the wisest, even old of age
Living reassurance that humanity has not begun to wilt

They ease the ill-fated into a gentle passing
And heave that final sigh filled with pain and peace
Continuing the next day to give away pieces of their heart
Knowing it may be for good, maybe out for lease

For all they see they smile for the good and sympathize the bad
Their heart is meant for giving, never asking for love
The purpose they are here for us is a simple one
To be strong as a hurricane and gentle as a dove
