• Today I tore death apart
I looked inside and saw a heart
It had a hard ridged surface
So I took it home, a solid purchase
I hung it on my apartment door
And watched the blood fall to the floor
    Its beat was erratic
    Shifting with random ease
    I was just ecstatic
My face glowed, I was pleased

Time then slowed to a near halt
The heart was still beating fast
Those 30 minutes seemed like forever
Even though 3 seconds had passed.

It was then my body grew tense
The air in the room grew dense
Smoke oozing out from the blackened heart
Nothing at the moment made sense.

I stared paralyzed at the blood drenched door
    Head pounding like never before
For this heart I did adore
But it made living an extreme chore

    My body submerged with sweat
I pondered how bad this could get
    On the floor soaking wet
I got up, still weakened yet
    After the storm had passed
It seemed to me I was fine
But upon looking down I gasped
    And realized that the heart
    ...was mine.
