On tiptoes she dances
An imaginary waltz
Down a moonlit path she’ll never take again.
In a ballroom bright, she sparkles
Twirling round and round
Her partner smiles and the orchestra plays on
Then, it dissolves, and she’s left alone on a lonely rooftop
Left with only an echo in her ears and bloody feet from her frantic dancing
All alone
She gazes over the edge, wishing for something she knows is but a dream
Then, she trips and she’s falling…
falling…
falling…
And she’s back in the ballroom bright as the sun
In a dress of black and white lace, she sparkles
Her partner smiles and the orchestra plays on
And they dance an imaginary waltz for all eternity
