• Strange girl, in a strange world.
    Couldnt control herself.
    Her emotions ran wild.

She cried herself to sleep that girl.
    Feeling misunderstood.
    Then he came along.

    She was happy.
Something she hadn't been in awhile.
    She clapped at sunsets.

Everynight, she dreamed of something big.
    Bigger than herself.
    "Love" she would say.

She knew it would come one day.
    Then it came.
    Hit her like a rock
On the side of her skull.

    They talked about there futures
    Together
    How they wanted children

    One black one white.
    Then one night it happened.
    The tears came back.

    He broke her heart
    Over her black skin
    And she'll never forget that.

It took her hours to stop crying.
    But it never stopped.
    Maybe on the outside
    But never on the inside.

    She was confused.
"Why does skin matter?" she'd ask
    Time and time again.

She'd see he was with someone else
    And the tears came back
    More fierce than ever

She kept a knife next to her bed
Always hoping she'd get up the nerve
    To pull it off

    She's better now.
    Thats what she says.
    She dances to music

    And sings outloud
    Better than ever.
But the scars will never leave her.
