• A Hitchhiker In Hades

    her eyes become lakes
as streams run down her face
    her hair ablaze above
    in the shimmering sun
    burns her firecracker skin
    and her smoldering scalp
    where the dazzling haze
    puddles in the highways.

as the blacktop kettles her legs
and the grasses and the ditches sag
    leaving leaves clinging but limp
to too hot trunks, boughs and limbs
    drooping in the high degrees
    slighted by the still breezes
    where sweat filled sneakers
    long for sun dried bleachers
like wet backed hikers all swear
    their thumbs in the air.

as no cars crossed her heart
only crickets then to be heard
    the deserted hiker virtually topless
    where deer flies in triplets
    bit her brightened red hairs
cried out as yet not aware
of the odors and the smell
since she really is, all by herself, in hell!
