• Once the words of the greatest men pour through
Once the ideas of the greatest humans are told
What can I call this dense confusion?

Once the name ‘Lenore’ is uttered by Poe
Once the tragedy of two lovers is written by Shakespeare
What can I call this disorder in my mind?

    ’Tis a fog of mystery
    ‘Tis a world of perplexity
And yet it reveals those great truths
That one can not know when they are sane

For insanity gives light to those truths
Only the madman knows the meaning of life
Yet he knows not of reason

Should you understand the workings of a wheel
    You will not understand truth

Should you understand the answer to 3 + 3
    You will not understand love

For should you ask a scientist
    ‘What is truth?’
    Will he not be tongue-tied?

For should you ask a mathematician
    ‘What is love?’
    Will he not be puzzled?

The closer we are to sanity
The further we are from knowledge
