• What if

What if I could explain to you,
    Everything you wanted to know?
What if I made it through,
Like I promised I would, so long ago?

What if I could make you understand,
With a few well chosen words?
What if I discovered a beautiful land,
Filled with endless grass and birds?

What if I painted you a picture,
That gave you insight to the unknown?
Would you just throw me stricture,
Or admit that your mind was blown?

What if I sang you a song,
That gave you a happier point of view?
If I left, would you come along,
Even if my path was askew?

What if I gave you an apology,
That was really and truly sincere?
    Would we then make amends,
    Or would you simply dissapear?

What if I wrote you a poem,
That made you realize something great?
Would you just leave and go home,
Rather than admit you can relate?

What if I told you a story,
    That changed your whole lifestyle?
Would you credit the deserved glory,
Or would you even grant me a smile?

What if I made you a promise,
    That I simply couldn’t keep?
    Would you be understanding,
Or let me cry myself to sleep?

What if I told you a secret,
That you didn’t want to hear?
You should know I’m done with these games,
And I want to make that clear.

What if I told you that we were done,
And I went off on my own?
Do you think I would have won,
    Or is that simply unknown?

What if I could survive without you?
Because I believe that I can.
I think I’ll manage to make it through,
Because I happen to have a plan.

What if I tell you I’m gone,
And I’m doing fine on my own?
Did it take you until dawn,
To realize that you’re all alone?

What if I told you that I’m happy now?
    Would that make you mad?
Right about now, I’ll make a vow,
To never forget what we had.

    I won’t forget, but I’m saying goodbye.
    Goodbye to what we had.
    But I swear I won’t ever deny,
That once or twice, you made me glad.
