• It was a Sunday at church, like most that I'd seen.
I sat in my pew and listened to the preacher.
I can't remember now the words that were said,
But I do recall a distinct feeling.
As the sermon wrapped up and they gave altar call,
I clung to the pew as tight as I could.
Sure enough, my methods had worked,
And I passed God up once again.

    [Chorus]
I was playing hide and seek with the Lord Jesus Christ.
But I was hoping he would find me all along.
It made me so happy, so greatly relieved
When he finally found where I was.
Yes, thank God, he found where I was.

It was true that my plans had worked thus far,
But I soon found that my mom had other plans.
She pulled me aside and I knew that I had to tell her.
"Mom, God was calling me today."
As quick as a flash, I was in front of the altar,
    Bowing and praying for forgiveness.
And my momma bowed with me and prayed her own prayer.
Thank God for a momma that cared.
But nothing was as important as that key word forgiveness.
I'm so glad God forgave me that day.

    [Chorus]

You see, friend, we can hide for as long as we like,
But God just wants to hear one thing:
"Dear Father, I've been hiding for far too long,
and I want you to forgive me today."

    [Chorus]
