• What I am

I am what I am because of me,
I laugh and I smile when I'm full of glee,
The sun shines brightly, right on me,
    My opinions are mine,
    And my mind is free,

    But when people judge me
    For what I am,
Should I take it and leave it?
    Or grin and bare it,
Am I still who I am, because of me?

If I'm not, who I am because of you
    It's my choice,
    I won't be swayed
My passion, my fashion, its here to stay
Because of me, I am what I am

Why a person should be judged
    For their choice of music,
Or the color of their face
    Isn't it true that,
We are all one united race

If I were you, would I be me
Forced to conform by your decree
    If everyone's the same,
    Like robotic sheep,
    Why follow a flock
When I can just be me

    My choice is mine
    Not yours, you'll find
    My freedom to expression
    I execute and employ
For I am what I am,
    And you can't change that

So, no I will not cut my hair,
That you will have to bear
No I won't go out and drink
    For my mind is mine,
    And mine to think

    With your hurtful nudge
And you're corrupt right to judge
    Your kicks and your shoves
You are you and I am me

Your icy words, stab deep into hearts
    Your fear of difference,
It is my right to be different
You have no right to judge,
    Hate and discriminate

For if I am what I am, does that mean I'm inhuman
    Two arms
    Two legs
    Two eyes
    One heart
Does that describe you, as it describes me

    Our tastes are different
    But our race is not
    The united people
    The human race
