I’ve got all these memories
of places I’ve been
places I’ve passed through
and seen
and felt
and dreamed up.
I’ve got this urge
to find them again
and walk in those old places
in my own footsteps
with my hair in pigtails
and no knowledge of calculus.
I’ve got this feeling
that if I found them
I wouldn’t find them
that time is the Great Divide
that here and there
are then and now.
I’ve got this pull
in my chest
drawing me to this
slab of concrete
that, somewhere,
a good distance from
here and now
is the field I spent
a hundred days in
one summer before
time caught up with
who I am
here and now.
