• Beep, beep
    The monitor speaks
    As a woman leans down
    And kisses my cheek

    Wavy blond hair
    And tears in her eyes
    Why, she looks familiar
    And so I remember
    I have no wife.

    Groan, creak
    My back shrieks
As I sit up in bed
And put a hand to my head

    Two children run up
And throw their arms round me
    Why, they seem familiar
    And so I remember
    I have no kids.

    Burn, crash
    Some memories flash
    In front of my eyes
    As I touch my gash

    A boy in a garden
    And now in a swing
    Why, these are familiar
    And so I remember
    I have no past.

    Aches, pains
    Plagued by them daily
    The wheelchair, the cane
Now the tools of my trade

    "One second, Dan!"
Says a nurse in the hall
    Why, that sounds familiar
    And so I remember
    I have no name.
