Journey of a Ronin
The thoughts, musings, insanity and rants of a wandering warrior. A self professed student/artist/dreamer/anarchist, riding the waves to find my place in the world.
Whatever.
I pay attention to current events and I learned that The Pope had died just before I left for my evening shift at work. I know everyone's now going to be falling over themselves about how great he was and all, but for me, I'm indifferent. Yes, he had a huge influence on a lot of people, but there's always the good with the bad. Good points, he supported Evolution and formally aquitted Galileo (gee, that only took, like, 360 ******** years) and dealt with that whole Communism thing, had the balls to say something about Iraq and a bunch of other stuff.

On the other hand, there's the covering up of ***** priests and I don't agree with the Vatican's views on birth control (considering there's 6 billion of us around), gender roles and same sex marriage, pretty much any of their views on sex, period. I don't think people have a healthy attitude about sex and they way it's connected with character in general, and just saying it should occur between married men and women (hopefully, the one you're married to), just leaves us with our heads stuck in the sand, for AIDS, unplanned pregnancies and other wonderful things to come along and kick us in the a**.

I have to apply for my summer courses this week. I'm sure I'll get in, a lot of people don't really do summer courses, so I'll probably just have 10 people or something like that in the same class as me. I still have a lot of money on my meal card and the main cafeteria that I buy from will be closed for renovations. I was pissed off at first, since I had a lot of money on my card and I can't use it in some of the campus cafeterias, until I learned that they've decided to let up carry over our meal cards to the next year. I'll just use it out and never buy it again.

My last book finally arrived. the books I ordered are: Uncle Tom's Cabin, Fast Food Nation, Nickel and Dimed: on not Getting by in America and finally, The Culture of Fear. I've already read Nickel and Dimed, a book about the working poor and it's quite interesting. I know some people will probably think "oh, it's your own fault", or "they should have done better in school" or "at least you're not starving", a few notches less insensitive then "oh it's your own fault, since we legally pay you less then what is charged for rent", or "you could have been smart, if your school didn't have cutbacks" or "at least you're not dying".

It was quiet at work today. Very few dogs and not many serious cases beyond a constipated cat. I love working at the vet's, but I'd really like to find a better paying job, 8$ an hour just barely covers my shopping trips and I know it will barely cover my summer textbooks. I don't sell my textbooks, I hang onto them for reference and I figure they may help me if I really do become a high school science teacher.

Daylight savings time is tommorow, but it's okay, since I plan to sleep in. Gotta start studying for my very spread out exams tommorow, I'm mainly worried about my first 2 exams. My notes for Epidemiology are all written up and I did very well on the assignments, but I need to remember how to calculate everything. As for Communitiy Ecology and Environmental Biology, I'm still not sure what to focus on since it just jumps around to all these ecology topics without any real sequence, but the prof said that he'd tell us the best way to prepare on Monday, my last class. I know Animal Behaviour pretty well, just have to make sure that I don't screw up the short answer section like I did in the midterm last time. As for Statistics, I've been screwing around in that class half the time and I still have an 87 in it, I get to bring in an aid sheet and it's my very last exam, taking place about a week after Animal Behaviour, so I'm no too concerned. All in all, I think I'll have good marks this year.
