Movie review: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
((I lied. XD. It's not in character. I have to write this while it's in my mind still. XD.
The following review contains spoilers. Read this only if you've read the book or seen the movie. smile
As a huge Harry Potter fan(Not the character.. I hate that little angsty brat. But, those who have seen my profile could probably figure that. ^^ wink , I was really looking forward to this movie.(I'm also looking forward to the 7th book.. smile . But, that's another story.)
ANYWAY.. distractions aside..
I'll be blunt: I didn't care for the 5th book. It dragged when I read it. X_X. Harry was too angsty(It's realistic, but still annoying), and Cho was too whiny. It seemed that the other characters were following a similar theme, too. X_X. Plus, the battle at the ministry wasn't all that exciting for me. Maybe if I reread it, it'd be better. But that's how it is at the moment.
I've always dreaded seeing the movie version of the book, simply because I've never cared for this installment of the series. I mean, I knew I'd see it regardless, but I was dreading it nevertheless. However, years have passed since then. I joined HOL, and gained a new respect for book 5. I still don't care for it that much, but I like it a LOT more than I used to. With this change of mind, I went to see the movie version of the book I disliked. And I was pleasantly surprised.
The edits made to this movie were, for the most part, beneficial. Cho's whinyness was downgraded, and Harry doesn't angst NEARLY as much. And I could care less if Quidditch was cut. I never cared for those parts, anyway. XD. Though it still would have been nice to see Weasley is our king..
Anyway, what was left in WAS very good. The CG effects for the magical duel between Voldemort and Dumbledore were awesome, as were the fireworks during Fred and George's big exit. Though I DO have a complaint about that. See past the 'good things' section.
Another good thing in the movie was the casting. All the new actresses and actors
fit their character's descriptions, and portrayed their characters perfectly. I also liked the magical duel at the end. XD. Not just the CG effects. The duel itself was just so awesome! Finally, some elemental magic! Now, for complaints..
Complaints:
-Peeves was cut out. AGAIN.
I know exactly why, and I blame the previous directors for this. >>;. Peeves is one of my favorite characters, and I'll never get to see him on the big screen. X_X. He was needed for Fred and George's exit scene, and leads to my next complaint.
-Fred and George's big exit.
While the fireworks were awesome, they didn't have nearly the same effect on me. This was one of the scenes I LIKED in the book.
-The lack of the Order of the Phoenix.
It's called that for a reason! And they hardly appeared.
-Snape's worst memory
I loved this scene in the book, as it's one of the few times we get to see the Marauders in action. But in the movie, they didn't say ANYTHING, aside from James Potter. And I didn't even catch young Sirius, Remus, or Peter in it. They were probably there, but were silent roles if they were.

Other than that, I have no complaints. For being based off an 800+ page book, it was condensed VERY well. I applaud the director for this.
As for a letter rating, I give it a B+. Which is a lot for someone who disliked the book.
