As Mark awoke on the third day, he realized that Yuki's bag was missing. He ran to find George. George was already starting on the laundry.
"George, I had a bag in my room. It was there when I went to bed, but when I woke up, it was gone."
"I don't know who would have gone into your room. Have you talked with your group?"
"No, I didn't see them on my way here either. Do you know where they are?"
"Joe is with Sam in the garden. Linda, I think she is in the kitchen."
"Thanks. I'll go see what I can find out."
"Mark, what is in the bag?"
"I don't know. Yuki said not to open it until we were safely back at headquarters. I haven't been able to force myself to open it."
"Well, good luck then."
"Thanks"

Since the kitchen was the closest location, Mark decided to start there. No one there had seen Linda all day. They weren't even sure if she had left her room. Mark asked one of the ladies to go and check in on her while he went out to the fields where Sam and Joe were going to be.

"Sam. Joe."
"Mark, what are you doing out here? We figured you would be helping with the children again," said Sam.
"I was going to be, but when I got up, Yuki's bag was missing. And I couldn't find Linda. Where's Joe?"
"He and Linda went off to do something. I don't think they would take the bag though at least not with out talking to us first."
"Yeah, but do you know where they are? I mean, I don't want to think they took it, but I don't know anyone else who would want it. It's something Yuki doesn't want us to know about until we get back to headquarters."
"But are we going back?"
"What are you talking about?"
"They sent us out here on a stupid mission. We shouldn't have been sent out. Now, Yuki could be dead and ... We could have been killed. Why should we go back?"
"Because we have a duty to our families to go back. I know that we should have been sent out, but shouldn't we go and warn them about what happened?"
"You're right, but... couldn't we wait. You know until the war ends. We will be able to stay here right?"
"We might be able to, but are you sure that's what you want? Do you really want to abandon your position and stay here?"
"Yes, Mark. I really think I do."
"Have you had this conversation with the others?"
"Yeah, but they didn't react like that. You really think it'd be alright?"
"Of course, I think George is just like you. If I remember right, he was one of the first to go out with Yuki on a mission. I don't know the full stories, but he decided not to return. When Yuki wouldn't tell them exactly what happened, they took her off active duty and made her a teacher. So there's no question that you can stay here. They are just worried about what might happen when we get back."
"True, if you're short a member, you have to tell them what happened. The loss of a unit member isn't taken lightly."
"So do you know where they went?"
"Not exactly, but I think they want to head home."
"Then I bet they took the bag with them."
"Mark, Sam, follow me, quickly."
