Week Eighty-Eight and Eighty-Nine: No Rest for the Wicked Ahhhhh, the post-event lull. The time just after spending weeks working on the event where, even though you have a ridiculous amount of work piled up, it still feels like you're getting a mini-vacation because you're not working as hard as you were. The Halloween event was by and large the biggest event I've ever done - possibly the biggest event Gaia's ever done. Even though it wasn't without it's problems, and there were a number of them, it was pretty successful as far as events go. Some of my favorite threads on the whole affair: A Glimpse Inside :: Seeing The Other Side of Gaia Personally, I think the event is pure win this year. A letter to Gaia about the Halloween event ...I love you, Gaia. I love these threads because a lot of the things users enjoyed were things we designed into the event -- and it's difficult to get things like that (especially creating an experience) across like that. Hiccup So, the first day of the event we didn't have enough vampires to match the humans. This was a misstep on our part, and partially a result of time constraints. I had always wanted to make users able to switch sides... I mean, it makes sense -- Edmund wanted to unmake vampires, and Vlad wanted to make vampires. Unfortunately, by 5:30 AM the morning before the event went out, I had just barely put on the final touches on everything (and there were still some things left out). We had hoped that we could propagate vampires the same way we did Grombies way back when - but the game is so balanced that it would make it impossible for us to do it. Plus, it would have been waaay too hard for people to switch teams when they wanted to. For some hardcore users, this might've been fine - but not everyone has a ton of time to spend on the event - so we wanted to facilitate that as easily as possible. ANYWAY - a ton has happened lately that I haven't commented on, like VJ (which I love, in spite of a few annoyances with the search) and Cash Shop (which you can see, has already made it's way onto my avatar). I have a ton of stuff still to do, so I won't be able to write a big update today... but maybe end of this week I'll talk about some of the crazier stuff that went into making this event.

	I loved this year's event. Especially after the V : H ratio balanced better. I hope the vampire skin stays an option, like the Zurg one still is. I think that the locations of change would have to be clickable on the maps. Or maybe Moira and Edmund could offer to change people. wink Anyway, to sum up: Event rocked! Story rocks (although I'm curious how those 3 will feed themselves)! Cash shop rocks! I spent most of my cash buying a bottle for my husband's avvie. xd Haven't checked out VJ yet — waiting for enough time to sit and enjoy it. wink All told, everyone at Gaia deserves a collective hug and enough batches of Mystery Cookies to go around. heart

	heart Thanks for the great work, Fleep! heart I do wish the event was longer, but I can just save money to get the items I didn't get, so oh well. This was waaay better than last year's, and was the highlight of my days when I got home from school. Maybe you could implement this system into another event! (but not soon, that might be overdoing it)

	brb reading manly diary EDIT: Back! Great update, Mr. Fleep. NAOW EAT DIS POTATO! I'm kind of not sure how you guys pulled this off, because here I am, having a great time with this amazing event everyone created, and then there's this Halloween Contest which was absolutely beautiful. The amazing part was how everyone somehow had time to create all of those decorations, ALONG with wallpapers for us and other extras. You guys are hardcore. Sheesh, I love your work ethics. I'm considering getting back on caffeine so I can stay awake longer and work hard like you guys do! biggrin

	Did you see full movies like Harry potter 5 and resident evil 3 on VJ? Those should be taken off or else Gaia might get in trouble X3

	thank you for all your hard work on the event. it was a lot of fun (though i should have impaled my sister...but i was being nice). can't wait to hear more about the making of it. i see you enjoy destroying Tokyo as much as any proper B-movie monster should. you should add tentacles or a fly head or something to make you more monstrous.

	I think the event was pure win as well ^.^ It had everything you could ever want in an event, which is awesome and personally I can't wait to see more events along this line. Srsly. xD highfives Oh, by the way, I saw your avatar and immediately pointed at the screen and yelled " IT'S FLEEPZILLA!"

	Well this was my first Halloween here on Gaia and might I say it was very fun. I enjoyed that we actually had to go around biting/staking people. I'm very much into vampires so it was great for me. I found it challenging but not to hard. Plus it was fun to read the little attack messages. So great job ^_^

	-always thought you would be one to destroy a city- i really enjoyed the event and i am in love with my new skin it was hard but i got all my points and i wish you would have stayed a vampire beacuse then you would never need to sleep and your work couldnt get so piled up on you but do get some sleep we dont want you dead

	I really enjoyed the event.<3 I also liked the way that I still had a choice to become a vampire the "old" way. ^^! I have a question, though...after the autoswitch goes away, am I stuck as a vampire forever, or will there be a cure somewhere so that I don't have to delete my avatar? ^__^x Thanks for such a great Halloween! domokun

	I liked the event a lot. I think you made it fun for those who could spend a lot of time, and for those who could do just a thing. I was a bit shocked about the short amount of time between the trickortreating in the shops. If you let an event run for so long, I think 3 minutes is just fine. This way the prizes only drop low. Oh and I found it more exiting when you get a random gift after you got a full set. Having had this event, I can hardly wait for Christmas

	Wow and i thought you was dead As a dev id love to here some of the backend stuff that had to happen/be developed Good event thought, i paided 10k on a mule to be a vamp, and the free changing sides didn't bother me at all. (thought i did go and change half a dozen mules to vamps after the change ^.^) One thing you may want to look at and no idea if this was part of your duties, but make gathering candy harder, it was a macroers dream event, the items are gonna be worth a new kind of worthless.

	I actually snorted at seeing your signature Fleep. gonk But I would like to say 'thank you' for this event, and to everyone else who was a part of making it possible. I really really enjoyed it, the system of attacking and leveling up was a lot of fun, and I'm glad you put thought into people that don't have a lot of time to sit down and play. The Cash Shop is also very nice. Working in the Electronics Department at Target is a big plus now. talk2hand I'm glad Lanzer read my PM and fixed the setup on the Announcement about finding them at Target stores.

The whole event kinda felt like a whirl of excitement because the time went so damn fast the last nine days and before I knew it, the event was over. I'm still regaining my conciousness from the lack of sleep I had during that period xd ...I'd like to join you by your side ♫

	I really loved this event . It was my first Halloween event so I can't compare to others.There was some problems but nothing so big. Like when I couldn't go to towns at all sad .But When my sister pm you about it, it was fix fast and you were helpful and kind the whole time heart . Everything was amazing the items and what you guys did in towns. I love VJ so glad you guys did it helps sharing your stuff without all the codes. Love the cash shop your avi is cute biggrin . So glad you guys now have gaia cash cards. Got mine at Target the $25 one now I can just get the MC in your cash shop makes life so much easier for me no more snail mail order . I'm so glad this event you had if you heal your teammate you got points for it and still went up to get an item. Made it go faster that way sometimes . I hope you do that again if you help others you still get points to have your rank go up . Enjoy that it was easy after you change it so we can switch teams . I will never forget bitting my own sister xd . You guys did an amazing job

BTW, My apologies for interpreting your use of URL variables as an invitation to substitute message numbers from elsewhere redface It's a good thing I didn't give away the secret sooner (it was a closely held secret for four days, withheld to make it an end-of-story climax). Next time I see a command-line parameter, I'll ask if we were supposed to use it (my wrong assumption tells you when I started using computers). BTW, I am still available as a PHP, HTML, SQL consultant for maybe the next two months or so. 	Please vote for me in the Avatar Arena! Ty Fleep! event was great this year! Needed a lil tweaking but yeh...you know. ^^ I still miss the interactive UFO NPCs, even though they were not needed in this event. hint-nudge-gives brownies and cookies VJ is neat but a hard load on my dialup. Least it actually works though! Cinemas never loads the vids for me. still hasn't seen the last MMVII!!!! Someone youtube that please! Thank the team for doing a good job! 	I'm so happy you saw and enjoyed my thread, because I really want you guys to know how awesome the event was this year. I've been to every Halloween event so far and it seriously was the best one you guys have done yet, in my opinion. heart Glitches were at a minimum, the games was really fun, the items were beautifully done, the storyline was entertaining and easy to follow. Everything was just on the mark. The few issues that could have been better were so small, or so quickly attended to that they don't even matter. I'm insanely impressed with how awesome you guys have been doing lately on the whole, not even just the event. Not to be cliche, but keep up the good work! X3
