Reflection
Once there was a girl who wasn't really there. When others spoke she would gaze out the window or at the ceiling; no one knew what she was really seeing; no one would ever know. She was so quiet that it would sometimes take hours before someone noted her presence. She made others nervous because she was different. They silently squirmed with discomfort whenever she let her gaze fall upon there faces. Her face was smooth; if she was left to her own devices it would settle into a look of sadness and longing. But once someone spoke to her and broke her reverie, she would smile, to reassure them that she was ok. They never knew where she came from or what she wanted; they were too afraid to ask. She didn't belong. One day, she left and never came back. Stories abounded in attempt to explain her mysterious disappearance: she dove into the sea and never resurfaced; she was evaporated and absorbed by the sun; she blew away in the wind. No one knew. No one would ever know. And once they forgot she ever existed, it was quite obvious that no one ever cared.
