Story Time!
Love or Death/Prologue
Thick drops of rain fell from the sky on the city of Gital. Everyone was snug inside their warm houses, chattering away quietly with their family and loved ones. Lighting flashed across the sky and a few seconds later thunder followed, causing the ground to tremor a little. Once the thunder had died away footsteps could be heard on Thai Street. They then stopped and the person who had caused the footsteps leaned against the wall.

Yurina Matsuoka was breathing heavily and she leaned against the wall. If it wasn't already raining she would have guessed that the water coming from her eyes were tears. She was 19 and yet she was acting like a child, which made her cry even harder. Her long, red hair fell down her back and stuck to her grey dress that covered her slender body. She had no shoes on and her feet were hurting but she didn't notice. The pain in her heart was worse. Tears continued to spill from her eyes, which were hazel, as she thought about the day.

It all started in school. It used to be Yurina's favorite place to be because of her friends and the teachers, but it was especially the place to see her boyfriend, Mark Lokino. She loved him more than anything in the world. A year after they graduated he asked her to marry him. It was one of the most happiest days of her life, but now that Yurina was looking back on it she now realized she had been played.

The reason she was out in the rain was because she had just came from the church. Before the storm had started it had been bright and sunny. The bells from the church were going off because there was a marriage being preformed. Yurina had snuck into the church and sat in the back pew. The church was huge and people were everywhere. The sun shone through the stained glass windows of Jesus and the cross. Yurina looked up at the altar and started thinking about her own future with the man she loved. She leaned forward a little to see if the bride and groom were anyone she knew and that's when her heart broke.

Standing at the altar was Mark. The bride she realized was her rival from school, Matilda Humphrey. They had hated each other ever since freshman year. Matilda had always wanted to be with Mark but when Yurina came along she blamed her for everything. Matilda was the head cheerleader and with her looks every guy loved her. Her short, blond hair gleamed in the light and the veil covered her face. She was wearing a white, saten dress the went to the floor. When they had finished their vows Mark lifted the veil off of Matilda's face and kissed her. Yurina knew it was a passionate kiss that he used to give her and Matilda responded back. Everyone started clapping except for her. She just stood up numbly and left.

Once outside Yurina looked at the sky. Her heart was broken and she started crying. That's when the storm started. She had a gift that could control the weather but most of the time her gift controlled her. Once the tears started falling from Yurina's eyes the rain poured down. Just as it did Mark and Matilda came out of the church. They were both staring at her but Yurina never looked at them. She slipped out of her shoes and then ran.

The memory of earlier still lingered in her mind and no matter what she did she couldn't get rid of them. That's when Yurina made up her mind. She would never fall in love again. She would leave everything behind and find a new place to live, a new place to start over. She would even get rid of her name and give herself a new one. From that day forward, Yurina's life would never be the same again.
