Autumn/Winter hath struck with avengence. We had one of those killer storms go through - complete with insane, howling winds, trees falling on cars, branches all over the roads ( cleared away and cut through by the CFA our faithful, mostly volunteer staffed, fire fighting and emergency force), downed power lines with live wires skittering across the soggy, slippery roads, spot fires generated from said wires... and some silly Japanese tourists wandering about, looking for the place where you go and feed the birds... and bird with half a brain in it's head is going to burrow into a tree or bush and wait it out.

In any case, the power has been off since Wednesday and it's only just come back on (today is Saturday) so I haven't had 'net access, T.V. microwave, radio, fridge, oven lights or any of the other modern conveniences for nearly three days.
Ahhh, my music... how i missed it.

We've been cooking on top of the wood heater, sent all the frozen stuff to my sisters and messing about with hastily unearthed and dug out of storage candles of light. I did NOT like sitting in a pool of candle light with the rest of the room pitch black... how did people live like this?!
Weirdest feeling ever to open the front door, look down the street and see nothing but endless black.

I just hope we don't get to many more of those... if we do though, I'm all prepared now. I got some largish tapered candles (a box or 3), one big squat candle, a lighter with a light on it so i can see if the power goes out again and a dynamo torch (crank it for a minute or two to get power for an hour or so... good stuff. ^_^)

Next time the weather decides to turn homicidal I WILL be ready!
